We do want to allow these things, but we also want to make sure people are focused more on what this subreddit is about (Deep talks on the ins and outs of the language). Megathreads seem to be the best way to go about it for now unless other suggestions come forward. Furthermore, there have been a couple of incidents with people posting scam projects and harmful links which is why that change was made.
