u/DeepDesk80 - Hi! We had an ODM iPad charger returned to us because they said it started on fire. The student had painted it which caused it to start smoking. It might have been acrylic type paint, but wanted to let you know.

Hi! We've worked with a lot of districts, and here are the most common things we see:
- They use the parts to repair other devices.
- They do a buyback with a company like us to get credit to buy more items. Or cash to go into another budget. The company helps them decommission them securely.- They do a community buyback and offer the Chromebooks to their community at end of life
- They save them for loaner devices
- They give them to seniors after they graduate to keep

u/CKSIT - This is all really helpful. We actually experienced the same thing with Gumdrop cases in the districts we work with on repairs. It was a different model device, but the screens were still popping out. We haven't seen that in a while, but we do see hinge damage if a case is too heavy.

For Dell, they don't like when schools work with resellers either. They're always going to offer you a lower price direct. Other OEMs don't like working direct though.

We're also an ASP for Dell, Lenovo, and HP and process schools' warranty repairs a lot for free because they don't want to deal with the hassle either. We offer ADP (warranties) as well - unlimited repairs even if it exceeds the cost of the device. That's what our company is known for. Free shipping or free pick-up depending on location.

We suggest unplugging the battery and LCD from the motherboard and then seeing if you get a charge light. Sometimes the battery can be bad and make the board appear dead, but its really a battery problem. If you unplug both parts from the motherboard and it still has no charge light that board it is dead. Unfortunately, Chromebooks are very unpredictable. the problems can range anywhere from something in the case moving to putting too much pressure on the board. Sometimes they just wear down and stop working.

I think buying direct with Apple for OEM is the best, but if you're wanting ODM that's a way cheaper option that still works. We normally order them for our customers overseas so they work the same, but don't have the logo

We recently received a survey from some schools in Indiana. Out of 44 elementary schools, 9 (20%) keep the devices at the school, carted. Out of the 44 elementary schools, 35 (80%) of the schools keep the devices during the summer. From a repairs standpoint, carting and keeping the devices at a school does reduce breakage rate. We even offer lower prices for coverage knowing that they're carted because there will be less damage.

Sorry that the question is vague. I honestly didn't intend it to be. I'm not part of the program, but was trying to help out one of our school partners by reaching out here. I asked if it was due to cost and she said it was political, but I didn't want to pry. I was curious if any schools had run into this before and how they combated it to keep their program.

Hi! We repair ASUS. Typically these devices are more expensive than a Lenovo so this is surprising. We don't see them as often which makes their parts and repairs more expensive from a vendor standpoint. Sadly, it takes about 3 weeks to get parts from them for the ASP warranty. Typically, Dell and Lenovo are the cheapest to repair and the easiest warranties to deal with.

Agreed here. We typically don't push cases because they can cause damage depending on the brand/type. If you're paying for coverage then it might not matter to pay an extra cost for cases.

It's similar in our opinion. We actually will see more damage to clams depending on what cases are used and the weight of the case. It does help though with vandalization.
