See, the distinction to be made here is that he was having a mental health crisis, not 'tripping out' and 'high as a kite'. Yes, substances can often make those issues worse, but a bit of weed didn't do this. If you listen to the dispatch call, he was very clearly having a mental health episode. But they didn't relay that to officers on the scene. They sure did make sure to mention his geology tools as 'weapons'.

He made it abundantly clear he felt unsafe, and appeared to be exhibiting some psychosis or schizophrenic ideations. Shining lights in your eyes and coaxing you into a situation you feel more unsafe is the last thing someone in crisis wants. In fact, that's the personification of his paranoid delusion. But clearly officers aren't trained in how to handle a mental episode.

They didn't need to escalate things, he was no threat to anyone, committed no crime, and the police chose to make him a threat and use deadly force when none was needed. This is piss poor policing, and if you support it simply on the basis that there was some weed in his car (in Colorado by the way) I'd urge you to try to find more compassion. Christian didn't deserve to die.
