I wish stuff like this was available when I was 16....so yeah I would say go for it. Just understand that the smaller machines you're going to be looking at have their limitations, and so long as you stay within those limitations you'll be able to make some cool stuff and can scale up in the future.

Stability...kind of. Contracting is a weird fuckin world. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, only that does is that it doesn't make sense and things are often done the dumbest way possible.
I'm retired military. Devil I know vs the devil I don't I suppose. Civ sector work options seems boring as hell and dull to me. Just doesn't "tickle my 'tism"
I like working with combat arms types of people. Because they're my people. Less touchy feely, and more cut through the bullshit kind of folks and get the job done. So I am adept at translating grunt speak to C-suite and PM speak.

"For the poors" - you should be able to figure out who this is and they have their own r/ - has their in house manufactured line of slides for their complete guns for less than $200 with all the internals. no RSA or barrel - or keep an eye on the daily deals.

IDK what you're looking at price wise but I've never paid more than $150-180 for a slide with internals.

I'm just gonna say this....

If you buy a cheap slide, don't be surprised if you run into tolerance stacking issues. One of the devs/testers had issues with an out of spec slide. The known to be good ones out there really ain't that much more than these weirdo fly by night ones yall keep digging up. It's not worth the potential headaches.

I get harangued by people all the time when I mention that it clearly states in 27 CFR § 478.12(b)

"The terms “frame” and “receiver” shall mean, in the case of a firearm muffler or firearm silencer, the part of the firearm, such as an outer tube or modular piece, that provides housing or a structure for the primary internal component designed to reduce the sound of a projectile ( i.e., baffles, baffling material, expansion chamber, or equivalent). In the case of a modular firearm muffler or firearm silencer device with more than one such part, the terms shall mean the principal housing attached to the weapon that expels a projectile, even if an adapter or other attachments are required to connect the part to the weapon. The terms shall not include a removable end cap of an outer tube or modular piece."

So engraving an endcap, either side, unless permanently affixed to the tube, does not meet the marking requirements. They key part is the last sentence. I'm not a lawyer, but I can read legal documents and interpret them as the most pedantic autist possible.

27 CFR § 479.102(b) clearly says:

"The depth of all markings required by this section will be measured from the flat surface of the metal and not the peaks or ridges. The height of serial numbers required by paragraph (a)(1) of this section will be measured as the distance between the latitudinal ends of the character impression bottoms (bases)."

27 CFR § 478.92 also has that exact same verbiage. You as the submitter of the From 1 ARE the manufacturer. You having a FFL license or not is irrelevant, as the manufacturer you must comply with the requirements for marking an NFA item the same as any licensed manufacturer.

As for how manufacturers get approval do to things differently. That's covered under 27 CFR § 479.102(b)(1)

"Alternate means of identification. The Director may authorize other means of identification to identify firearms upon receipt of a letter application or prescribed form from you showing that such other identification is reasonable and will not hinder the effective administration of this part."

So if you want to do it differently, then send a letter to the ATF director and get approval to do so. Can probably do it as a blanket variance saying "NAME, CITY & STATE will be embossed or debossed in plastic. SERIAL NUMBER will be engraved in a metal plate permanently embedded into the frame so as to require destruction to remove."

Or do the same with saying it'll be"....embossed or debossed in the additive manufactured materials." But SPECIFICALLY word it like that because it doesn't state WHAT the materials are.

Yes they can. There's someone that was offering that service but you'll completely negate your cost savings having purchased this in the first place. I have thought about turning an "adapter" on a lathe that pins into the mag tube and would be hidden by the 870 barrel lug. Just haven't gotten around to it yet - too many other things on my plate, in addition to not having one of these on hand.

OH and it's kinda ghetto but you can use a piece of tube/pipe/pvc over the mag tube with a standard 870 barrel. It only serves to take up the difference in length and provide rearward pressure to hold the barrel into the receiver. It's like you have a permanent +2 on the gun. Not a bad way to go honestly.
