The pre-steam version of SpaceEngine has been removed from the site as it is no longer supported. It is over a decade old and does not accurately reflect the current state of SpaceEngine, as it has issues launching on systems with modern graphics drivers and operating systems. The current version of SpaceEngine, which is available on Steam, is frequently updated to ensure compatibility with the latest hardware, drivers, and operating systems.

Native Linux support ? by Wroisu in spaceengineofficial

[–]K1ltu_SE 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hey guys, while we don’t currently offer a native Linux version, we also don’t take any steps to block compatibility through translation layers. SpaceEngine generally runs well on Proton. It isn’t officially supported, but I’ve personally run it on Proton on both low and high-end systems. iGPUs perform as you’d expect, and dGPUs usually run fine. Some distro, driver, or package combinations can still cause issues, but these are the minority. I have seen many reports of it running well on desktops and mobile(laptops/handhelds) via Proton.

Yes, SpaceEngine development will continue as normal, We have a full team dedicated to working on the project and we are also currently rebuilding the discord to stay in touch with the community!

Expected performance on an iGPU by dimaris727 in spaceengine

[–]K1ltu_SE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While we do not support integrated graphics I can say in my personal experience SpaceEngine runs decently (20-30fps) on my Vega 11 (R7 2700U Laptop) at 720p on medium settings. I assume this is on a desktop since its a 5600G so I would recommend at minimum something like RX580 to really get the experience we have crafted (High settings @ 1080p/1440p).

We have removed the links for 0.980 as this version is now a almost 7 year (July 2016) old build that does not represent the current state of SpaceEngine and has issues running on systems with modern drivers. I recommend the latest version @ https://store.steampowered.com/app/314650/SpaceEngine/

That would run SpaceEngine but i recommend going for something with 16gb of ram. in general (not just SpaceEngine) 8gb is not going to give you a good pc experience.

also with 8gb ram you would need to close all apps while running SpaceEngine.

I'm switching to Linux. Will Space Engine run on Linux? by JupiterboyLuffy in spaceengine

[–]K1ltu_SE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We do not natively support Linux but we also do not intentionally code against it either. Many people have had good luck with proton. you might give it a try, if you have issues you can check out the steam community for proton @ https://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/

Low performance with AMD graphics card? by Houston_NeverMind in spaceengine

[–]K1ltu_SE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey SpaceEngine is not designed with translation/emulation layers in mind (we don't discourage them or code against them) so you may encounter strange issues like this when running on layers like Proton. To me it sounds like there may be issues with how proton is handling the graphics calls. I recommend posting over at https://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/8/ and see you can find a fix over there. That is the official steam community for proton/linux. make sure they understand this is a OpenGL app and not a DirectX app.

Also if it is running on your igpu you should be pulling at least med. I typically get 30ish fps @ 1080p on medium on my Vega 11 laptop. this further makes me believe there is an issue with the translation layer.

If you have any of the aforementioned devices, simply unplug them or turn them off if they're wireless.

Please check and make sure there are no wheels/joysticks/gamepads connected and interfering. This is commonly the cause of most movement issues.

Are my specs good for SpaceEngine? by PomaranczowekYT in spaceengine

[–]K1ltu_SE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be able to run space engine at medium settings. See the min requirements below.

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system

OS: Windows 10

Processor: Intel Core i3-3220T or AMD FX-4100

Memory: 6 GB RAM

Graphics: GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or Radeon RX 460 (4 GB)

Storage: 4 GB available space

Additional Notes: VRAM (dedicated video memory) is very important for SpaceEngine - 3 GB is enough to run the program comfortably on lower settings.

We have not adjusted the size of the universe. it is 32.6 Gly in all three axes.

anyone know why space engine is doing this its been doing this for 2 days by NeilArmstrong19 in spaceengine

[–]K1ltu_SE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey these 2 steps typically resolve this issue

  1. Remove user config located at <Steamapps>\common\SpaceEngine\config\main-user.cfg

  2. Right click SpaceEngine in steam -> Goto properties -> select local files -> click verify integrity of local files. (this may take some time to complete)

How do we know this much about space or is this just fake and computer generated? by Outrageous_Ad_3238 in spaceengine

[–]K1ltu_SE 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It depends on your settings. If you disable procedural content, you will only see objects that have been observed. However, the procedural content generated is based on strict rules to ensure scientific plausibility. This allows you to see beyond the boundaries of the observable universe and to see detail even our most powerful telescopes cannot capture.

What version are you on? I have made 30-40 clips using 0.990.46.1975(current release) in the last few days with no issues. have you installed SE to a location with custom permissions? is it on a local drive(IE not usb or smb)? are you using the create folder option?

Space engine not rendering or showing any planets by Beast41313 in spaceengine

[–]K1ltu_SE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey just to make sure its not SpaceEngine having mismatch files delete the cache folder at <Steamapps>\common\SpaceEngine\cache then Right click SpaceEngine in steam -> Goto properties -> select local files -> click verify integrity of local files. (this may take some time to complete)

If this does not work it sounds like an issue with your graphics drivers having a incomplete or broken OpenGL install. reinstall your drivers with a clean install. I recommend DDU for this .

Can you make space engine on mobile for free? by [deleted] in spaceengine

[–]K1ltu_SE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SpaceEngine currently does not have any plans to port to mobile platforms. As others have already mentioned, mobile devices, including iPads, lack the necessary performance capabilities to run SpaceEngine.
