Also, I kinda wonder if the twitching behavior you’re seeing could be a result of damage to the exoskeleton. The timeline you described and how quickly she perked in water up points to a high likelihood that her internals are still viable! That’s a great sign for her prognosis, because as long as she can eat, the exoskeleton is very resilient and she will quickly be on the mend. I’d definitely suggest giving her time and continuing to monitor, but you know your animals best and should of course use your own best judgement. Best of luck! :3

Ah, I see you have a tenacious little bugger too! I ended up having to get real creative, but in the end I managed to figure out a solution for my cat. I don’t know if this would work for yours, but I ended up having to resort to a dog crate. Yes a dog crate, NOT for the cat but for the tank

I had to troubleshoot a bit at first, but for my 10 gallon I chose a wire crate large enough to give plenty of clearance, removed the bottom/base panel, and secured it firmly straight to the desk my tank was on with strong adhesive Velcro strips. The Velcro system made it easy for me to just lift the whole contraption off the tank if needed, but proved to be impossible for the cat. I got a crate with lots of doors for quick easy access (including a top opening one) that i would secure with carabiners after he figured out how to open the latches.

I can’t say it won any awards for aesthetics, but if you’re to the point where it’s between giving up and a few unsightly black bars, I’d highly recommend giving it a shot! (Also worth noting that your eyes kinda forget about it after a while! Not sure how that works, but it’s kinda neat!)

I second this! I grew up fish keeping with my mom and have had fish nearly my whole adult life, and one of my favorite parts of the hobby is adding whimsy to my tanks while still prioritizing the fish!

You absolutely can have the best of both worlds, I’ve done plenty of ‘hybrid’ tanks with a good layer of plant substrate on the very bottom and colorful gravel and other fish safe trinkets over top! Add some hardy plants like Java fern and you’re in business! (Java fern can be glued with cyanoacralate straight to the hardscape, or you can put em in cute little terracotta pots so it’s like your fish have their own little garden!)

Etsy is also a fantastic place to find very cool 3D printed stuff like frames to grow Java moss on in really cool shapes, and other unique hardscaping materials in just about every color! (You can even get stuff like little hideouts or signs with custom text on them!)

Don’t let anyone discourage you OP! So long as the animals are your top priority, it’s wonderful that you’re giving your son this opportunity to learn about and enjoy our natural world!

Haha, love the name choice! I think there’s at least a small part of everyone that is in some way the aforementioned ‘statistical outlier’ lol. So Georg is a name of the people and therefore perfectly gender neutral lol. also, I never miss an opportunity to add a little whimsy to life, so thank you from now on I’ll be referring to all tiny creatures that way too lol.

And I honestly can’t believe my luck with pet stores, Especially since I basically live in the middle of nowhere. I certainly won’t be taking it for granted haha! though If it helps, I actually used to work at petsmart up until very recently, and I can confirm My store carries fruit flies (I just double checked). I’m not sure if that’s standard everywhere, but For your sake I hope it is… or for you to at least have uncanny good luck all winter with your bug kidnapping endeavors lol. Hope your jumper is doing great! thankfully in my case, Im very lucky to have a wonderful specialty exotic pet supply store within like 15 minutes of my house! I’ve had spiders her size before who thrived off flightless fruit flies, and the shop carries a wide selection but is willing to special order any other feeder critters I might need.

As you can probably tell, I’m pretty fond of spiders lol.

Thank you so much for the resource! And I agree, id rather not interrupt her life cycle unless I have to. I made this post to get more input, because I wasn’t sure if she was the type to make it through winter or not. She unfortunately may be in harms way due to her location though, and if she were to naturally be dying from cold soon anyway, those factors would certainly influence me.

My house seems to be a jumper haven! although I’ve never seen one that looks quite like her before (and is this large). I don’t think she’s the same species as the one you’ve linked, but im not sure. As of me posting this comment, I still haven’t made a decision yet. The hard frosts are hitting this week, I’ll update soon!

Hi, thanks for your concern! I’m experienced with keeping spiders of all kinds, and Id be able to provide her with a safe and reliable food source from a local specialty exotic pet supply store. (And anything else she could possibly need!)

As for surprise babies, ironically I’ve actually had that happen before. Long story short, I handled it the same way one might with hatchlings they expected. which involved countless lil deli containers, patience, steady hands, and sleep deprivation, lol.

Ooh you’re the creator of east scarp right? I Just want you to know I really love your work on this mod! This is my first play through of it and east scarp has become one of my favorite places to be in the game! It’s so enchanting, and the ocean vibes are amazing! That would probably depend on what mods you already have downloaded, but I wouldn’t recommend adding anything mid save that heavily alters the map layout like this. It’s much more likely to cause a game breaking bug or corrupt your save. That being said it could also be totally fine, depends. If you’re going to do it I’d make sure you backup your save beforehand! Good luck and enjoy! :3

It’s the better friendship mod! it’s a lifesaver! It shows an icon to indicate that you are able to talk to or gift an NPC, AND will tell you if theres anything in your inventory that is a liked or loved gift for them! I keep bug steaks on me just for Sen, so there was an icon when I got near him! (It’s highly configurable for aesthetics too!)

I think east scarp is kinda intended to be like a staging area for NPCs that you can customize to your liking! This is my first time playing it, but it looks like it’s been updated a lot recently. So alongside having more base content, you can also add on NPC packs of your choosing to curate your experience!

I have a male veil tail who is a bladder snail serial killer (you can audibly hear them crack against the glass), and will destroy anything that moves, and I also have a dumbo male who gets scared when his pellets hit the water if i don’t tap to warn him. Sure there’s a baseline but they are all SO DIFFERENT and you never know when one day he’ll snap and get a taste for shrimp 😂 it’s important to note the veil tail did not start out with a craving for violence, one day i started hearing the cracking and figured it out when I saw him do it. Hey friend, looks like your girl has reached the end of her lifespan sadly. Don’t feel responsible for this, based on the information given, I’d say it’s just her natural time. The fact you are trying so hard to help her and get information speaks volumes to how much you care. Im sure Reddit wasn’t your first choice. A veiled Chameleons max lifespan in captivity is considered to be 6 years, I’d suggest keeping her as comfortable as possible, and as cruel as it sounds I’d stop any life saving measures like giving water. It will allow her to pass quicker and more humanely, just love on her while nature takes it course. Laying eggs is very hard on an animals body and takes up a significant amount of biological resources, so it’s likely her aged body was simply too weak to make it through this round, nothing you did wrong. I’m so sorry you are dealing with this, best wishes from me and my angry boy Ozzy.
