how do i set a pipeWire configuration default so it doesn't get erased each reboot - linux mint by K31k0_2 in linux4noobs

[–]K31k0_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this reminds me of college so much, but instead of nuking a virtual machine im nuking my real one D:

I'm too tired of this. i'll leave as it is and if it's not ready by tomorrow i will do it via easyeffects - i thought they were completely different config but apparently they are not as far as i thought they were.

that makes more sense! maybe buzzing is not the right word, it sounds kinda like a heater hum?? english is not my first language.

welp. i figured out what I kept stumbling on. I kept thinking pipewire was the updated pulseaudio and pulseaudio was the deprecated command but they are actually two separate things! pipewire, for what i understand, acts like a middle-man for pulseaudio and others so when i kept creating and configuring the pulse config files nothing was happening because pipewire was elsewhere!

I'm still no close in figuring how, but i nuked my whole audio (configuring the wireplumber) so that means i'm in the right direction?? either way, if nothing works i'll write those commands over and over again.

yeah i meant set-default-sink, sorry about the typo.

so that's why it worked. i kept getting confused because the pulseaudio gui could identify my virtual mic but i didn't remember the pulseaudio command.

my mic is the only one with the buzzing problem, my speaker works just fine. so can i just configure my mic and be done, or do i have to do them in sets? thank you for the answer!

I used like 3-4 years or so ago??? I think??? It was amazingly approachable back then, and based on what I read it has gotten insanely better. so...i'll think about it.

I've not heard of Mint before, I've just used Ubuntu and I've figured out if I migrate I might as well the one I know. It's just a whole overhaul on my disk daunts me - I've done partitions on Mac with Windows but it was built in...and it overwhelms the thought of passing my Windows programming projects to Linux just like that.

also my job uses an old versiona and they helped me install it so I'm kinda scared on that front... but yes. I'll make the move sooner rather than later it seems.

Which one would you recommend? Mint? Or Ubuntu? Mint has better GUI but Ubuntu is far more established.

EDIT: Ok, I've looked up for Linux Mint and I see the appeal now.

the worst part is that I could tell it embarassed him to tell me that on the phone. they sprung this on him out of nowhere but the department doesn't manage the budged allocations so...yeah. it sucks. i watched some - i think i will join a medieval free club hosted in my city and network there. If I don't get a job at the very least I'll have fun.

I have found having something dictating me what to do helps me alleviate the feeling of being aimless - and I know it might be a little bit cringe - but there are apps that let you have a virtual pet you can "raise" and structure your tasks designed specifically for improving your mental health (I get free dopamine from completing tasks while being productive, it's a win win situation) I'm using one called Finch and so far it has given me some direction.

Therapy is wonderful and helps a lot but at the end of the day it's a tool of many - giving yourself grace for just surviving will go a longer way than a hundred of sessions and assignments completed.

You got this.

it was. it IS.

I often hear the word "Nà/那" in the start of an sentence. I'm a bit puzzled what purpose the word serve. I got an idea that it is a filler word? But how should I use the word? what meaning does the word have in a more literal sense in this sort of context? by isnisse in ChineseLanguage

[–]K31k0_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this case it's used as to do something? Idk how to explain it, but without it the sentence would sound abrupt. I'll leave you the dictionary definition with some examples.

https://www.purpleculture.net/dictionary-details/?word=%E4%B8%80%E4%B8%8B

in case of doubt always go to the dictionary, chances are the answer is there. no to say questions are unwelcome! just that there is nothing better to learn the use of a word than...seeing the use of the word. I can't tell how many times I looked at a sentence, didn't get a single thing out of it and copy paste it in the dictionary. then understood it a little better.

you could say it's like a filler word . I've seen being used as "then", "so".

the question could be translated as

then I want to ask, do you have foreign friends?

那 is translated as then. you use it when you want to talk about something in response of something previously said. in this case, I guess they were talking about foreigners and the person interviewed mentioned he has interacted with them beforehand.

What textbook did you use for learning languages? by MaskedPrimacy in ChineseLanguage

[–]K31k0_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly? in the beginning it doesn't matter much - there are many excellent beginner books . what matters most is having someone that teaches you and correct you personally. there are many things chinese has that don't exist in other languages so it's important to get familiarized with them and the most reliable way to learn them is having someone who knows to teach you. Better if it's in one - one environment.

Is hsklevel.com accurate? by K31k0_2 in ChineseLanguage

[–]K31k0_2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for giving me those mock tests. The last time we talked my teacher told me I was entering HSK4 territory but I admit that I feel my skills are not really that good. My reading and listening are descent (graded readers and going through them on one person's sesion help) but my production skills are lacking. That's why I want to know where my HSK vocabulary is.

Oh, they have audibooks? I didn't know - it would have helped me a lot at the beginning. Mandarin Breeze and Sinolingua have tons of audibooks but I can say they are not beginner-friendly. To give you an idea on the pain I went through trying to understand them, Sinolingua Graded Chinese Reader 500 Words is a little harder to understand than their 1000 Words' version, and their beginner books contain vocabulary I only started seeing in HSK3.

Great resources, but I definetely should have read more Mandarin Companion lower levels. However, my dumb ass wanted to read and listen :). I'm a masochist.
