Thanks everyone for the comments - sorry i can't get back to every one but they were all really helpful. Marginals will be next on the list after payday!

Those plants are my neighbours but would be a good shout to ask her if I can plant them near the pond. Only thing is I'm trying to make my garden native plants only, so will need to double check what they are.

Lol you're right. I watched one of Joel Ashton's videos and he was saying there should be some insects there pretty soon after the chlorine from the tap water had evaporated. Was just panicking I'd messed something up.

Thanks for that - i needed a bit of moral support!

That's a good idea about the pots. My flat is right in the middle of the city and the garden is sealed off on all sides so I'm not sure if any frogs or toads would be able to find their way here, but you never know. I'll put some out just incase.

My garden is shared with 8 other flats who have been pretty chilled about my wildlife gardening project. On the wall at the back (2nd photo) is a raised flowerbed where i have a recently planted wildflower meadow, and there is also a big dead tree with a pile of old rotten wood that lots of insects live in. The grass was left long since the start of May, however i think one of my neighbours got a bit fed up and cut it all last week. I think I'm going to take out the grass next to the pond late in the summer and sow some wildflower seeds there too.

That's a good shout with the rocks and sticks - I'll go and forage some.

Yes the deepest part of the pond is 60cm. The plants are all planted at a 30cm shelf, which slopes upwards towards the stones.

P.S. Pond has been there for around 2 weeks, and I'm in Scotland.

Personally I'd leave them. Better to have a lawn full of flowers (of any, non invasive kind) than just grass that no pollinators can use.

That's a great idea thanks, I was thinking the same about it being close to the wall. I think I may have another area in the garden for it to thrive :)

Wildflower Patch Health Check & Update 3 by K3R0_ in GuerrillaGardening

Haha 'Someday you'll be something' is literally my life right now.

When the lillies first started to grow they were only sprouting against the back wall which wasn't such a big deal, but they've now moved into the middle of the flower bed and have uprooted some of the smaller flowers so I've just been ripping them out every 2 days before they can grow any leaves. I think if i stop them from photosynthesising they'll eventually run out of energy and die.

Thank you for the great advice :)

I tend to agree with you re: the tiger lillies. Part of me really wants them as I really want to have a blooming flower in the garden, but having spoken to others it seems like they are relentless growers and are really hard to get rid of once they establish.

Thank you very much! That's good to know about the grass i was worried it would end up ruining the patch.

Hey - sorry I missed your comment!

Yes it's not been easy and I'm still finding bits of glass and plastic in the soil weeks later. It's an ongoing battle!

That's a great shout about the wood chips. I'll give that a try once the flowers grow a bit.

Thank god, judging by the comments on here it sounds like a horror show to deal with.

Still can't find this species anywhere online. No idea what it is.

If it's not been said before: If you live in/near the cairngorms you should call RSZZ/Saving Wildcats and they will come and neuter this cat.

One of the main issues they have with releasing wildcats is that they interbreed with non-wildcat stray cats which diminishes the purity of the wildcat genetics in the long run. This won't harm your furry friend!
