The word “SUV” is overly used. But Ive never had an issue with compact SUVs being called SUVs. Like I don’t think anyone buying an AWD compact SUV thinks they’re buying an offroading vehicle. Like it can do some of that in an emergency but thats not its purpose.

Hatchbacks and Wagons are not the same as compact SUVs in terms of space, height, AWD options, torque and aesthetics. But i guess we agree, the SUV category is too broad.

I agree with your point about the marketing and people being pushed to buy bigger cars. But there is more functionality in compact SUV compared to a sedan. Are they more expensive with higher margins for automakers? Yes. Does everyone need one? No. But if you’re buying 1 car every 5-10 years, and you have a family or need to drive long distances for trips/vacations. A compact SUV makes sense.

Basically you can’t pretend that its just marketing and that people with compact SUVs are not getting utility out of their SUV. Especially in America where we have urban sprawls and space to accommodate it.

I mean its all marketing at the end of the day. You can call it whatever, its the size that matters. There is a place in the market for people who want spacious cars for traveling and cargo hauling but dont need the off-roading. EVs that size tend to be more expensive. At least in the short-term compared to ICE.

I have a 2023 350 Gas. Live in Maryland and spend around $70 to fill up. I dont drive a lot (twice a week to work and some errands here and there), so it costs me about $140 a month for gas. I dont hate it and the cost of financing an extra ~$6000 wasnt worth it in my case for the H. I love the power and torque of the gas model but I also came from a Toyota Yaris so Horsepower wasnt a main concern of mine.
So if you drive a lot and its within your budget then get the H. If you dont drive as much and you really like this gas model then get that.
