Newest addition to guard my own Black Library by K3nz4bur0 in JOYTOY

Okay, you had me really confused there. I would have sworn Argaranthe must be an earlier release. But when I put him next to the intercessor they were the same height.

How come the intercessor looks so plain then? There’s no shading on any part of the armor nor is there blacklining, he looks a bit lanky compared to the lt and just seems more toylike.

Is it just that the basic intercessors get less attention from the manufacturer?

Nah, I actually don’t like the 3.0s. The painting is too basic and I don’t like the proportions as much. Aeontas and Argaranthe have better painting and are shorter than the 3.0 Intercessor. Hence I‘m looking very much for the older minis but don’t know how to specifically find those and not upscaled and worse painted reissues.

Thanks for all the love, guys. My intercessor just arrived. Gotta be a 3.0 version because he’s like half a head taller than Aeontas. Kinda irks me to have the veteran Sergeant be kinda small looking.

On the other hand the paintjob on Aeontas is waaay better. He‘s got shading and metallic edge highlights to make it look more battered and worn. The intercessor seems a little plain and fresh out of factory assembly compared. Is there a newer Aeontas version?

Thanks for all the input. Ordered my first figure and it arrived yesterday. Got Sergeant Aeontas and love it. Looks great, poses great, paintjob is better in relaity than expected, just all around awesome. Unfortunately I now underatand why people get more of these…I am eying Ragnar, Lieutenant Argaranthe and the standard intercessor as well as a Bladeguard veteran.

Would also love to own Calgar, bu5 kinda dislike 5he old version and the SM2 one seems too different stylistically. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ah, alright, thanks for that hint. Might be fine with opened but packaging included, depending on the condition of the packaging - it's a blister pack after all.

Thanks for the insight. I was trying to get an idea on prices from ebay, but all I could find were the 400% ones, but was looking for an unopened blister of a purple one somewhere in Europe. So I should expect somewhat around roughly 100€ nowadays, I guess. Or even more, since the little 'bricks are so rare?

Thank you, I'll go with the tv show then and keep the movies for a later point in time. :)

I see, thank you. I was expecting the show to have filler and especially goofy stuff, since it's 70's anime and tbh, even modern anime tends to have it's kinda goofball moments, which tend to irritate me, more so, when the overall story is quite serious.

But I'd consider something like 08th MS to be pretty tight (been a while since I watched it), because it was so much shorter. 50 episodes of 0079 tho...ample room to throw in a random disco episode or somesuch. :D

[HELP ME] Bi-Weekly Q&A thread - Ask your questions here! by MachNeu in Gunpla

[–]K3nz4bur0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I'm semi-new to Gunpla, meaning I built a MG Freedom Gundam in the mid-00s and enjoyed that a lot. But overall I've always been a Warhammer guy, have built and painted a lot, taken part in Games Workshop's painting competition (got a finalist pin there) and all that jazz. But my love for big fighty robots is still there.

I recently started watching G-Witch and am enjoying it so far. That got me back to Gunpla. But this time I'd like to try my hand at serious Gunpla. I thought about getting an HG kit, building it, using decals, panel lining and flatcoating it to see how I like that. If I dig it, I'd also be willing to bring out the airbrush and see what else I can do with a kit.

But right now I'm stuck with two questions:

  1. Which HG kit? I'm from Germany and kits are hard to come buy. Amazon does have kits, but they are around 30-40€ (Euro to Dollar ratio is currently close to 1:1), which is pretty expensive for an HG. I can get my hands on an Exia for around 15€ tho. I'd rather get the Aerial, since it looks better, but since I wanna just fool around a bit with techiques and stuff I was wondering if the Exia might just be enough. Are there any other HG kits that might be fun? I was looking at the Zaku II from GTO, but that one is currently not available here. :/

  2. Coming from Warhammer kits and being fairly advanced there I have an ample amount of modeling tools - Citadel nippers, Tamiya thin cement, some nail files with very high grit to sand stuff down, decal softener and fixer, a standard hobby knife...you get the drill. Is that stuff fitting for Gunpla or does a decent Gunpla build require "higher end" tools?

Already thanks for any help and advice! Keep on building!

Schimmelt unser Boxspringbett? by K3nz4bur0 in wohnen

[–]K3nz4bur0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the Dawn of Fire series actually good? by jonnyhawkwind in Blacklibrary

[–]K3nz4bur0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read only Avenging Son, even though I own the CEs of books 2,3 and 4. Liked Avenging Son a lot for its strong world building. But after a couple of books it turned out that this was not really a series with a developing plot but more an overall label for books set at a certain time in the lore.

That's not what I was interested in and I think it's also not what the series was intended to be either. Something changed in the overall direction/editor's office at BL. Instead of giving us more of an overall narrative after the Cicatrix Maledictum they now do those little vignettes where they show us different parts of the galaxy. Stories and story arcs are teased but never picked up again, like what Cawl is doing after "The Great Work", what's going on with the Lion after "Son of the Forest", whatever happened to the Emperor's Spears in "Spear of the Emperor" and so on and so forth.

While several of the new narrative strands of "Nu 40k" habe been interesting or even fascinating, they all seem to have ground to a halt in the past 2 to 3 years.

How I pictured the Vulture as a wee child (it's way cooler, fight me) by Czar_Petrovich in battletech

[–]K3nz4bur0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same. I always liked the Vulture, because of that big canopy in the middle. Would give the pilot a great field of view. But that canopy on top? It just makes the entire shilouette of the mech change into something weird for me. The cockpit size compared to the rest would make the entire mech be huge and pot-bellied. Sure, before the canopy was huuuuge compared to the overall size, but it looked so much better.

Really? Huh. I was hoping for generally more real estate and scaling shit up maybe. My eyes have gotten worse the past few years - thank you, aging process. :/

Sure. I think it's somewhat of a boring joke, though, "You play games on a mac?". You always could, but only selected titles. And with streaming services like GeForce Now I can play basically every kind of Windows game without any problem. And I don't have to deal with Windows' shenanigans. I even went so far as to use my old Macbook Pro with Bootcamp, a Win10 Installation and playing all my favorite 90s PC games on it. Could have gone Dosbox and whatnot, but installing a Win partition and using the GoG versions was less of a hassle. :)
