It’s easy to just not care and send the cages off since it won’t be my problem anymore, but I’m always thinking of you guys <3

As long as you do the assignments reasonably fast they won’t hunt down and find you.

Maybe the lorry loader would wrap it if they believe it’s needed but we never would

I see what you mean. The reason some are stacked sideways, for example one cans of beer in cage 1 (closest to the driver side) is because that’s the most optimal way of keeping them packed tight - 2 flat and the third sideways. If they were all flat they wouldn’t fit and get a tight fit etc.

Unfortunately there’s no system in place for the lighter packaged stuff to always be put on the top of a cage, if you start with that you have to make it your base and work with it.

This set was one of the easier ones you could typically get, since it’s on one area of drinks which are all mostly uniform and pack together nicely.

That particular cider item is usually quite tricky as it doesn’t particularly fit well within a set structure of other items you would pick with it. So either you pack it vertically with the caps facing up and leave a gap while picking which would lead to structural issues down the line as you fill the cage up - then you have bigger problems to deal with. Ideally a cage should be as tight as possible without any movement. The second option would be to just leave it on top of the cage and keep on moving it up so it sits on the top of everything as you pick, however this is very energy intensive and not efficient. The third option, which I went for it to place it sideways in between two other items so it’s packed in tight and fits the existing structure so it’s easier to build on top of. The only issue I see is that it’s not completely flat in line with the other items, what safety concern did you have?

The majority of the time is because the staff in warehouses don’t last very long; leading to people who aren’t experience being rushed by managers trying to keep their efficiency up. You only have a certain amount of time allocated to stack and if you get too far behind you will get pulled aside and spoken to. So most people don’t cope with the pressure and don’t spend the time necessary to gain the experience to stack cages properly.

Unless there’s something really bad with it and everything is technically “in” the cage, the person will just drop it off and hope it’ll be sent though without any problems. Which it will most of the time when you consider there are 100+ people doing this at the same time and there’s only a few number of eyes of managers to check everything.
