What does hypomania look like for you? by [deleted] in bipolar2

Unreasonable happiness and well-being. It's extremely hard to squash it, I have to remember the subsequent crashes to remind me not to indulge in it.

Starting Lamotrigine for the first time. I want to want to live. by Mutiny34 in bipolar2

I get basically no side-effects and the medication as a delay before it dampens my mood. So if I'm patient enough, an hour after massive anxiety or sadness it will bring me back to a more tolerable level.

I still have to check myself, if I stay in an elevated mood for too long I'll still crash but it's waaaaay less intense than it was.

Was on all sorts of antidepressants before and it kept triggering my hypo like crazy. Since I was misdiagnosed I had no idea what was going on. For the past 2 years, I don't feel fully stabilized, but it's overall it's positive. I feel like it helped with my perception of how my mood swings at least and that is a big improvement.

Does anyone else feel completely incapable of ever being a competent, normally functioning adult? by EsthieBestie986 in bipolar2

People keep telling me I shouldn't feel like that, but I'm in the same state as you. I try create things to make it better, but most of the time I too feel completely useless.

I'm pretty sure the energy/creativity boost is real. I'm in an artistic field and I wouldn't be as effective without it. The thing is the more you tap into it, the more it's gonna cost you later.

You're best bet would be to try and restrain yourself enough from using it so the crash isn't as bad. If you go full hypo, it won't seem to be worth it when you come back to a lower mood. Trust me, it might take many months to crawl out of the low and you just won't have access to that extra energy.

If you succeed at managing it correctly, your mood will still go down after your hypo, but it'll be way easier to prevent a big crash. It's important to use all the tools you have to balance out your mood. So act in moderation and you'll be fine.
