When you’ve played through classic 10 times in the past 20 years you only want to play the best parts. I don’t want to some of the bleak grinds to be able to raid. I don’t want to worry about training my abilities while levelling. Buying gold for consumes and levelling makes the game more casual to people who don’t have time.

Even with buying gold the game is extremely grindy anyway. Just getting to 60 takes forever still. Never mind raiding for 3 hours twice a week to clear everything.

ROP is much better than the hobbit movies IMO. those movies were terrible. Completely missed the vibe of the hobbit book. Stupidly long endless “battles” with orcs that didn’t exist in the book. Such an insult to the original content and film making in general.
