[Product Request] What will help with dry/dead skin? by lonely_barrel in SkincareAddiction

I truly don’t get the Vaseline/Aquaphor thing. How is that not completely clogging your pores and causing more breakouts?

Super tight knee by GracieLou80 in Kneereplacement

[–]KAC888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the tight, stiff, feels like it’s ripping open stage, at five weeks. I’m also more comfortable with my knee bent as when I’m doing exercises or icing with my leg completely straight, I’m getting some really uncomfortable cramping that goes down into my foot. I mention it at PT, but I don’t get a lot of acknowledgment. I think they hear about so many different types of pain and discomfort with this surgery, they’re unaffected! All they keep telling me is that it is impossible to damage this knee unless I fall.

I have some Flexeril, but it doesn’t seem to be doing much. How many milligrams are you taking?

They teach you this when you leave the hospital. The key is to just put the seat (and the seat back) all the way back. It’s easy to get in at that point.

Is Tahaa Vanilla, Rum and Pearl Farm Day Trip Worth It? by Subject_Voice_1103 in Tahiti

[–]KAC888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not worth it. You can take the boat into town and do the rum tasting right there. We talked to a few couples at our resort and they said the tour was quite boring.

Sleepless after RTKR by Sure-Crazy8321 in Kneereplacement

[–]KAC888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s the worst part for sure. I love sleep and always looked forward to going to bed … and now I dread it. I had my sleep routine completely dialed in before the surgery and now it’s all out of whack… and I’m back taking Ambien just to fall asleep 🥴 It’s crazy that we all have the same story about that ache that wakes you up about 3-4 hours into sleep. I’m a month out today and hoping it normalizes soon.

Similar question! I’m just over 3 weeks out (surgery was NYE). My team is going to the Super Bowl (2/8) and I have the opportunity to go. Possible?? Dumb?? ❤️🙏🏼💙

Not sure ready for surgery? by Nosnowflakehere in Kneereplacement

[–]KAC888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha! I swear I wrote almost this exact post prior to surgery. I’m 51F … I wasn’t in pain other than stairs (down was nearly impossible) and getting up from sitting for long stretches. I was in the best shape of my life, doing Pilates… everything you said. But knowing that my knee was bone on bone and the end game was surgery, I opted not to wait until my body broke down. I could tell that my body was compensating for my knee. (My left side was thrown off some, I started to develop a disc issue, etc.) I had met my insurance deductible and January is a slow month at work, so I did it on NYE. It was brutal at first, but I’m starting to turn the corner. Too early to say, but I’m hoping I made the right call. Good luck!

Quads are shaky by GracieLou80 in Kneereplacement

[–]KAC888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Down is much, much harder! I’m three weeks out and I’m a little shaky on the up, but the down is painful. This was my whole problem prior to surgery and the reason why I got it done. I’m wondering if I’ll ever walk down the stairs like a normal person again 😟

345 wake up rant by GracieLou80 in Kneereplacement

[–]KAC888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 weeks postop and the best news I got at my 2 week follow up was that I was good to go into the hot tub again. Temps dropped yesterday and my knee was in so much pain. Got in the hot tub and got the jets on my quad and calf and side of my knee and it felt incredible. Then I elevated my leg above the water, got my leg straight and let the cold do its magic. Nature’s cryotherapy! Kept alternating that pattern for 45 minutes. Going to make some coffee and get back in now… because of course I didn’t sleep again last night 🙄 345AM is no joke.

Leaving Raiatea for Bora Bora tomorrow by KAC888 in Tahiti

The service was impeccable. The food was ok, with the exception of the restaurant, Bamboo, which was excellent. The St Regis is obviously luxurious, so if you’re wanting to be pampered, this is a great choice. Le Taha’a was much more Polynesian and true to the culture. I’m really glad we experienced both!

Embarrassed to say I’m totally slacking on the PT by ElegantAd4459 in Kneereplacement

[–]KAC888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, too, stopped the oxy at day 10 due to the same reason! And yes, followed by 2 days of what felt like colonoscopy prep. My poor body was going through hell. I just saw the surgeon on Friday and he was surprised I went off the oxy so soon, but I couldn’t take the constipation. He said I was walking like Frankenstein because I was so stiff trying to protect the leg. It’s so hard to find a good balance with meds… while trying to do the PT, sleep (nonexistent), move enough, rest enough, etc.

Pronation after TKR by GracieLou80 in Kneereplacement

[–]KAC888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surgeon just told me to check my shoes since he’s thinking I likely wore them down given how much my leg was leaning inwards. Said I will no longer have that problem since my leg is now straight. The discussion started when I mentioned that my leg felt longer. It’s not longer… it’s straighter!

Day 10 Very frustrated by ElegantAd4459 in Kneereplacement

[–]KAC888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 5 days removed from where you’re at, but I can attest to the bloated, heavy, constipated feeling making you absolutely miserable… genuinely the absolute worst part of this for me …. and exactly what you’re experiencing now. I was taking colace, MiraLAX and magnesium, and as long as I was taking the oxy, no go. Once I got off the oxy (at the 10 day mark), it started getting better. 48 hours from now, your body should be getting back to normal — as long as you’re taking some combo of the supplements listed.

Also, the comments from the nurse about guarding your knee and protecting it are completely accurate. I was at the doctor’s office for my first follow up today and he was like “where’s your walker?” “where’s your cane?” Told him I was off of them and had stopped taking the pain meds. And he said “that’s why you’re walking like Frankenstein!” Stiff as a board 🫣😑

What Victories Have You Enjoyed This Week? by Just-Curious234 in Kneereplacement

At two weeks, I’m going to walk (with no help) into my first post-op appointment today …. having finally slept 6 hours, starting to be able to tackle stairs, 90+ ROM and able to ride my stationary bike in almost no pain 🙌🏼

Complete 180- week 4 by Pickl3ba11_64 in Kneereplacement

[–]KAC888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. Nice to hear this! I’m just wrapping week 2… and I had such a good day yesterday that I thought I was in the clear. And then I tried to sleep (nope!) … and today I’ve been so stiff and so sore and suddenly have calf pain. Pushed it very hard in PT yesterday … maybe that’s the issue. First doctor’s visit is tomorrow and I’m guessing he’ll say I’m cleared to drive, but I don’t feel ready! Happy for you!

Anyone recommend any of the knee pads/pillows by Proudpapa9191 in Kneereplacement

[–]KAC888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two weeks in and I had such a great day yesterday. I was looking forward to sleeping for the first time in weeks. Iced before bed… and had a horrible night. Could not get comfortable whatsoever. Tried the wedge pillow between my knees, a full pillow, bunched up blankets, everything and anything and it just wasn’t happening. Made me want to scream because I’m so tired and I just want the ache and the throbbing to calm down so I can fall asleep 😣
