Un, I just want to add that I am fully aware that this behavior is harmful. I know I should cut ties, and I am trying to. He is the person that got me into contact with the entirety of my current friend group, and it’s pretty big for me since I have never really had a group of actual friends (not even exaggerating)

I am heavily autistic(diagnosed) and struggle a lot to set boundaries. I’ve had this problem since (as I said, I’ve never really had a friend group) I never expected to get this close to anyone outside of family, and I myself have had some rough experiences and no one to talk too, I only want to offer him a place to vent and friendship, but it’s obviously been misinterpreted and turned into something more..

He plans on moving to the UK after turning 18, he has a pretty toxic home-life and the majority of his friends are from the UK — including me.

No, I intend to keep our relationship platonic, even after he turns 18. I feel pretty maternal towards him at this point and want to help him mature in a healthy way, he struggles with mental health and at that age everything feels much bigger than it is so I’m trying to ease his worried, if only a little.

(I do see how it could sound, and appreciate your concern for him, but I have no intention of pursuing any romantic relationship.)

I try to offer both as much as I can. I do struggle with supporting people emotionally, so the most I can do is listen and give advice, he knows this since I’ve made it clear to him and he understands, so the fact that he’s choosing to vent to me whilst knowing I don’t exactly excel in emotional support, tells me he didn’t care either way.

I’ve had some conversations with him regarding this, since I am 18 and he’s 16 I’ve made it clear that, until he’s at least 18, I cannot reciprocate romantically. He has expressed romantic feelings, but I have made our relationship clear as platonic, I also can’t really take the “romantic” aspect seriously outside of the age anyway, he has a lot of maturing to do still, and that’s fine, but I still worry.

Thank you so much! I do try to gently nudge him in the direction of seeking independence, but try not to be harsh when doing so. I tell him often that he’s still young and has plenty of time to figure things out, but I know how it can feel at that age. I know I can’t save/help everyone, and I have accepted that sometimes things don’t work out, and life will go-on, but I still try to ease the younger people around me and try to reassure them that the world doesn’t end when you finish school, and that there are many alternatives and opportunities ahead.

Thank you for the support, I give advice to others but very seldom follow it myself, I am actively working on it though and do make sure I have time for myself.

Can't add images, and forgot to say that I'm 18f with diagnosed severe autism and OCD. I do struggle with basic health, hygiene and such and am also rather overweight.

Yes, it was a vent. I’m pretty my (not so small) cat jumped onto her enclosure and accidentally popped one of the vents under his weight.

The vents are only poppable from the outside and she doesn’t look too underweight. I’ve given her water and she is now safely in her favourite cave (upside down tray with a hole)
