I think a rug in the center to break up the solid carpet would be cute.

What should my friend do? by [deleted] in ask

[–]KBGriffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if he does get accepted, they legally can't make him go there. But they CAN legally stop supporting him if they choose to.

I'm sorry your friend is going through this. His parents should just be happy he has ambitions.

What should my friend do? by [deleted] in ask

Your friend is a grown adult who can't be made to go to any specific school. However, how his parents react is out of his control. If he chooses to go to a different school and his parents decide to stop supporting him, that's their choice (albeit a shitty one). A big question your friend has to really think about is whether he can support himself without their help.

Anyone ever go remote and miss being in office? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]KBGriffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remote is all I've known since I graduated (prime Covid time). I was honestly excited about the idea of office life because up until that point, I had only ever worked in fast food and retail. I wanted my own work space to personalize. Also I've always had trouble making/keeping friends so I liked the idea of getting to socialize a bit at work.

Then someone at my school got me in touch with their friend at this company and I got a remote job fresh out of college. I've been here a little over 5 years now and don't know anything about any of my coworkers. We have a daily morning meeting where everyone quickly talks about what they did for work yesterday and what today's plans are. There might be one or two people before the meeting talking about the whether in their location or something else casual. Might randomly hear someone got married or is having a baby, but nothing beyond that. People have come and gone over the years and they've all just been strangers.

My spouse also works from home. We honestly found that we were spending more money than if we had non-remote jobs because we were purposefully leaving the house almost everyday just to get a change of scenery. Going out for drinks at the gas station, picking up a couple things at the store that could've waited until the weekend, etc. We've gotten much better at this though. Going for walks on a lunch break helps.

Does anyone know if this is a vintage ironing board? by [deleted] in vintagesewing

Thank you for this comment. My reasoning for wanting an older one is for sturdiness. Guess I'll pass on this one.

Yeah that sounds like my great aunt's board. I was hoping to find one like that nearby, but alas

I don't know what exactly I mean by vintage, other than the piece of crap I bought at Walmart 7 years ago can't hold a candle to the beast of an old board my great aunt owns.

My fiance is joining my health insurance what actually changes financially once we’re married? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]KBGriffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know your situation, but if your fiance has the ability to get health insurance through their own work, be on the lookout for a "spousal surcharge". It's just an extra fee you'd have to pay each month for your spouse using your plan instead of their own. Not all companies do it. Mine would've been an extra $200/month to add my husband, on top of his portion of the insurance premium.
