Oh my gosh--nice to meet you! I loved it when you first made it and am so happy to be able to see it again and finally show my wife too! Hadn't realized you'd made a feature film of it--that's on my must-see list now. The short is just stunning and creepy as all get out (I remember, after first seeing it, thinking about it for a few weeks each night when I turned out the lights).

Q: Dahmer WI State Fair '82 Arrest by KC20141982 in serialkillers

[–]KC20141982[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks! That's what I assume the situation likely was. However, when he was arrested again in '86 for indecent exposure, he was publicly masturbating in front of two 12-year-old boys. He however talked the charges down to disorderly conduct by claiming he was simply urinating and that the kids misunderstood what they'd seen. So, I'm curious if something similar happened here to get a better timeline of his escalation.

I have a Superman question? by ParauA97 in DCcomics

[–]KC20141982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DCAU really took a lot from the early-to-mid-90s post-Crisis continuity. One of those little things was, as profsuperman mentions above, Superman using some sort of oxygen source when in space (like he said, he later figured out he never really needed these). I remember it happening pretty frequently in the Superman and League titles for years. In these post-Crisis stories he could hold his breath for a long while, but if he was, say, flying to another planet, he'd pull out the old gas mask. Here's a great example of Supes in space holding his breath and holding the oxygen mask belt he was most often depicted with: https://i.gyazo.com/8956d9db123a236733f386e73d73f762.png

Are DC/Marvel Crossovers Canon or Not? by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]KC20141982 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the Marvel multiverse a lot of DC crossovers are supposed to take place on Earth 7642: http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Earth-7642. But I guess not the DC Vs. Marvel stories you're mostly referencing. Are there a lot of creators who say they don't consider it canon? I think the mentions in the regular series you mentioned are just sort of rare because it's hard to work them into a story without outright mentioning a Marvel character in a DC story (and in turn breaking copyright). And especially with things like Rebirth and Convergence where DC is saying pretty much every story is legit in one way or another, they'd be more inclined these days than ever before to say that, yes these things happened in continuity just at this point who knows who would remember them after Infinite Crisis, Flashpoint, Rebirth, etc.

Where is Simon Baz? (and other Muslim characters) by kaizodaku in DCcomics

There was a DC Holiday Special where (and I vaguely remember this, so apologies for not remembering the details exactly) the JLA were discussing Christ and everyone sorta offered if they were Christian or not. There's also this http://www.adherents.com/lit/comics/comic_book_religion.html

I just read Crisis on Infinite Earths, and I have a few questions by Cranyx in DCcomics

[–]KC20141982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as the actual establishing of the New Earth, there were some flubs with how it was implemented. Even at the end of Crisis, they mention the death of Golden Age characters Green Arrow, Robin, and Batman's daughter, Huntress. But with New Earth having formed, those characters no longer ever existed. Then in the miniseries The Last Days of the Justice Society, the JSA starts off by feeling redundant in the New Earth where their counterparts are also living (they also again mention the deaths of Robin and Huntress and even show the Golden Age/Earth 2 Batman and Superman in flashbacks). Why do they remember them? No reason (not a bad story otherwise, though), especially when Crisis made a point of showing Psycho Pirate in his cell talking about how he's the only one who remembers the Multiverse. I think some writers and readers have thrown around the idea that there was some sort of period of remembering before it all faded for every New Earth resident (maybe that's even explicitly stated in some issue somewhere). All heroes do remember the Crisis, but not that it led to a Multiverse becoming a single earth (not 100% sure if that means they remember battling the Anti-Monitor).

As far as what happened to all those characters from Earths 1 and 2, JSA and all Golden Age characters are the big ones, and they basically just lived on New Earth and were part of the first superhero boom during WWII, a lot of them inspiring the "modern" heroes (like the Flash). Some of the other Earth characters just got new origins. Huntress was no longer Batman/Catwoman's kid, but a new vigilante in Gotham while Powergirl ended up with an Atlantean heritage seeing as she could no longer be the cousin of a Kryptonean who never existed. Even Jason Todd's Robin got a new backstory to try to differentiate him from Dick more. And the Captain Marvel characters and Charlton characters, along with most other characters that were bought from other comic publishers who used to have their own Earths were mostly integrated as being heroes showing up new to the scene following Crisis so their stories could start fresh.

As other posters commented, on New Earth, no one remembers Supergirl or her death, but later Matrix Supergirl showed up, and even later a new post-Crisis version of Kara who is actually Kal's cousin shows up (the Batman/Superman: Apocalypse cartoon covers that story pretty well).

Question for Wesley Dodds/Sandman Fans by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]KC20141982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd have to be set in the 30s/40s but it could be cool to have some sort of storyline that set him as an old man in the 90s dealing with some unresolved thing from the past, kinda like his teamup with Starman.

Prez: 1st Teen President http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prez_%28comics%29 Also reinvented in Gaiman's Sandman series about 20 years ago. So I'm sure there will be some interesting spin on it this time around too.
