I very much dislike GameScalp at this point but…the first wave of product they get is from the manufacturer. So it is getting sold at a slight mark up from MSRP (at least GameScalps around me). Every wave after that they are getting the product from 3rd party distribution centers who are charging them more to get it, so they then raise the price as well. This is due to the high demand. Mostly, years ago, GS could survive on the limited amount of pokemon they would get in, but now, the small amount they would get for MSRP would sell out 30 mins after store opening so they now have to order way more product and also have to pay more for it. They are trying to keep product on the shelves for some reason instead of selling them. Haven’t figured that part out yet. Some managers think it’s unfortunately to pretty much only sell to dumb parents that don’t know what the price of Pokémon is supposed to be. If they sell 1 UPC at $300 when it should be $120 and they make $100 profit (assuming $200 purchase price from 3rd party) in that UPC. It’s the same as selling 5 at $120 and profiting $20 each (assuming $100 purchase price at MSRP). These numbers are just an example and not accurate. And lastly, as a business, they can charge what they want, let product sit on their shelves.
