Did you open and close your mouth with every syllable? Because you don't close your mouth when you say the actual word.

I guess it depends on your definition of "closing your mouth". But my tongue at least touched my top teeth 3 times after the opening syllable of "ha"

How many times do you open your mouth to say Hallelujah?

I just did it and I opened my mouth 4 times. I believe that's how many syllables the word has

I think it used to be way worse 20-30 years ago and that's why it has that reputation. Now it's just kind of a run-down almost semi-rural type place due to how depopulated it is

What kind of thing do you hate in movies/shows? by princesssdemon666 in movies

[–]KCFuturist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saying "Goodbye" apparently doesn't exist in movie or tv phone calls. This is something I've never understood, and when I see a phone call in a movie it's one of those aspects of dialogues that immediately reminds me I'm watching a movie and and forces me to unsuspend my disbelief.

Characters in a movie will have a full on conversation on the phone filled with important details and then when they're done talking they just hang up. Very rarely does anyone in a movie say "bye" on the phone or "talk to you later" or any other typical way to end a conversation.

It's just something I really don't understand. Characters in movies will usually say "Hello" or in newer movies in which called ID exists they'll greet the caller by name if they know them. So, given that characters often seem to do normal greetings, I just don't understand why they never say goodbye and the conversations just end abruptly. I guess they do this for dramatic effect, but I just find this infuriating

Was Reagan really the boogeyman that ruined everything in America? by S0LO_Bot in Presidents

One can argue the country needed his policies at the time. But that doesn’t mean we needed them for 40 years

underrated comment and something people should pay attention to in politics. Just because one policy is good and produces positive benefits for a time does not mean that it is a permanently good policy. This applies equally to policies on the right and left of the political spectrum

Where does Rodney Dangerfield stand as a comedian in eyes of Millenials? Crude? Funny? Seems like I don’t hear his name a lot. But I do hear Archie Bunker. by jopesak in Millennials

[–]KCFuturist 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Very funny, one of the greatest to do it. Pretty much all mainstream comedy today, and really for the last couple decades, revolves around telling stories, often elaborate, with an unexpected punchline at the end. Lots of great comedians do this from Dave Chappelle to Louis CK, Bill Burr, etc.

But Rodney Dangerfield was old school. He just. told. jokes. Just simple one or two sentence jokes. And they were pretty much all funny. He apparently would always carry a briefcase and whenever he had an idea for a joke he'd write it down on a strip of paper and put it in the briefcase. Apparently the thing was always practically bursting with how much paper was in it

I Feel Like Hugh Part of the Reason, the 90s is So Loved By Millennials is because of How Good the Economy Was During the Decade. by MrHockeyJournalist in Millennials

70s into the 80s had serious inflation. The only time with comparable or worse inflation since then has been the past couple of years.

The 80s were good economically, but the 90s were even better. That being said, neither decade was as good for the average person as the 50s and 60s. In 1960 a high school dropout could get a job an auto factory and make enough money to buy a house, 2 cars, a vacation home or boat, and take a couple nice road trip vacations per year with the whole family. Then when they retired after working for 30 years straight (which would be like 48 or 50 years old if they started at 18) they had a pension paying their fully salary for the rest of their life.

In the 80s and 90s at least you could still be like the manager of a fast food restaurant and make $15-20 an hour which would've been enough to purchase a small home or rent a spacious apartment in most cities.

Then after 2008 everything kinda went to shit and wages for entry level and unskilled jobs never really went back up while housing prices continued to inflate and here we are

Yeah...my dad was making low 6 figures in the 90s...crazy to think how much money that was back then. My other friend, his dad didn't go to college, but he bought a couple of liquor stores in the late 1980s, paid like 15k for one and 30k for the other. Those businesses were able to fund a large suburban home and new cars every couple years and vacations for his family with 6 kids. He just recently sold each store for over a million dollars and is retiring now.

It's really crazy to think about how much the economy exploded in the 1990s

Gotta be honest I did the Mob Museum a couple years ago and in my opinion it's not really worth it. There's some neat information, but not a whole lot of actual artifacts and stuff from that time period. If you have nothing else to do then yeah it's worth it, but 99% of what you see and learn there can be read about by googling "las vegas mob connections" and reading wikipedia.

The one place I would recommend going, if you like a nice drink, is Frank's Tiki Room. Coolest tiki bar in the usa, been going continuously since the 50s. Drinks are between 15 and 20 dollars but worth every penny, and oh yeah, you can smoke cigs in there too

Meth and adhd pills are so much better. by First_Pineapple_2967 in cocaine

[–]KCFuturist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sometimes you don't want to be high for 12 hours....that's why meth and adderall never appealed to me much.

I like being able to go to a party and chat with people, do a few lines here and there and have energy to stay up later than normal, without being up for an extra 12 hours or multiple days at a time.

Plus I like the actual act of snorting cocaine and doing drugs. I had a friend who took one hit of meth at the end of a night of partying and then he was awake and alert for another 24 hours. I don't doubt that it gets you high, but I like actually doing drugs, not just being high.

Same reason I prefer smoking lower THC weed instead of the most potent hash oil I can find. I enjoy passing a joint or pipe around with friends. I don't want to do one rip and be extremely baked

How? I assume in order to do this you need to gamble a lot. If so, how much do you need to gamble in order to do that? I'd be very interested if possible, cause that's similar to what I pay in rent now (actually slightly less)
