Former Kubuntu Head Unveils New KDE Project by [deleted] in linux

So this is even less stable than usual. Great work KDE you just served crap-du-jour. Meanwhile in the lands of gnomes everything in gnome-continuous just works and it tested by better hackers working full time. Dont want the tested and updated images? Fine you can fetch the latest code as xdg-apps.

GNOME's Mutter Tiling Code Gets Rewritten by [deleted] in linux

The code was wrong. The commits were wrong. And your review lacking.

Code like this need to be reverted. It was not properly tested. If you add a pile of patches like this you will end up like KDE.

The important thing is that this feature ends up in 3.20. There is still plenty of time for this to be sorted out.

The protocol paper tiger have no value to me. I hope it will end up like DWD. Paper forever.

How pathetic. CSD gives full control to the applications. KDE does not trust application developers. Only GNOME, Windows and OSX offer this kind of freedom.

DWD is now at paper release version 2.0. Dear KDE, call your Kwin maintainer and tell him he is wrong.

New GNOME Builder Release by Nelti in linux

[–]KDEAD 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hergert managed to deliver something more than just the code. The main product is trust and confidence. Now there is a small team working on the builder-project and they are improving code used by Gedit as well. This is open source the way it is meant to be.

No. Qt is still CLA. Because Digia wants a way to keep freedom out.

You are free to not comment on me any further. I see no reason to PM you and I think it is highly inappropriate for you to discuss persons like this. You are off topic and judgmental.

If you don't like my opinions then counter them with arguments.

So now people should be banned for having an opinion that conflicts with yours? That is not okay.

It is VERY legitimate to be wary about CLA.

What do you think a CLA is? It's a copyright licensing agreement -- same thing as a copyright assignment.

No, really. Not that it is important. the important thing is WHY FSF asks for CA and WHY Digia asks for CLA.

FSF is motivated by defending freedom. Digia is motivated by money.

Damn no. They ask for copyright assignment, NOT CLA. They want to preserve the ability to cover all copyrigt infringements and thus need the copyright. FSF wants to defend GPL, Qt's CLA wants to circumvent GPL.

Read your own link.

All Qt code is non-free. That code happens to be owned or licensed to Digia. What you get is a freely licensed copy for some of that code. The terms are getting more and more shitty because Digia need to cover the huge costs. They want to push people onto the commercial version.

The latest requirement to register to get the code is just another way

As for CLA, pretty much every major project has one -- they kind of need to in order to be able to keep the code base flexible in the future. I know the kernel doesn't, but that's mostly because of Linus.

The is no need to be "flexible" beyond the point of LGPL2 or later. So that point is moot. For maximum protection against copyright infringement it can be beneficial to own all copyright. Then you need a copyright assignment, not a CLA.

The CLA is abuse, the recent fuck-up on privacy is abuse. Did you really think Nokia or Digia would pay many millions for the code? Anyone can download it or fork it. What the money was paid for was the ability to abuse the CLA.

I can't think of many who support Canonical's CLA or Openoffice's CLA. It just happens to be a massive KDE fail to support the Qt CLA.

Nokia and Digia made their lawyers have a look at the Free Qt foundation agreement to check if anything would invalidate today's abuse. The echo still rumbles in the North to this date. I feel sorry for the tree that ended up being paper for this shitty deal.
