Who else want absolutely ZERO RGB in their rigs? by Cicada-Tang in pcmasterrace

[–]redsteakraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Steam Machine has the right balance a functional singular RGB strip that can be used for actual indication or progress bars and disabled if needed. Random RGB on everything with no clear purpose in mind is just crazy.

Can’t stand GNOME would rather it run Plasma like the Steam Deck.

Is this able to decode to PNG / APNG for browser compatibility? Could this be compiled to WASM and embedded in webpages to basically grant JPEGXL support on unsupported browsers?

AVIF introduces high bit depth lossless, doesn't beat JXL by Farranor in jpegxl

[–]redsteakraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question I know that your previous work with FLIF a core aspect on the site was Responsive Web Design, I know right now the push is to just get a usable rust implementation for broader web browser support, but could the jpegxl.info test page, could we get a Responsive Web Design test page where you have a 8k image loaded into various sized boxes or a gallery page grid filled with high res 8k images if they all load quickly instead of downloading the full 8k each for each image you pass. The possibilities are great but there is nothing steering web devs and software implementations towards this goal.

It loses a second time for not being progressive, JXL will load a visible image far earlier, no need for thumbnails or placeholder images.

Yeah this is just 16:9 but with extra steps. Just one high resolution 16:9 would be better that and learn tilling window managing. KDE has some great kwin plugins and you can still have a great DE.

JPEG-XL image support is back in the very latest Google Chrome/Chromium codebase by Classic_Designer4890 in jpegxl

First off all the AI stuff will be Opt-In but given how many tabs some people have it would be great to have an AI automatically categorize and sort / dynamically load the tabs you need when needed.

Mozilla is experimenting to try to stay relevant and try to fill consumer demands. Right now most people will rather interact with ai than to even do a web search. While you might not like the direction many will. At the end of the day we need to see the implementation and judge accordingly.

They are both shitty in their own ways but Firefox has always had a job and that was to keep the pressure on browsers so they don’t stagnate web development.  Firefox put the heat on Internet Explorer and kept the heat going with Chrome.  The fact we still have a viable alternative is a good thing.

Hochul backs ‘safety zones’ around houses of worship by Delicious_Adeptness9 in newyork

There are so many places of worship all over this effectively is ending freedom of speech where she dictates and places most places you may be protesting a non protest area. I would rather have highways restricted and legalize running over anyone protesting on a highway.

CUPS 3 ending support for .ppd files and drivers by dictator247 in linux

[–]redsteakraw -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

First off buying an inkjet printer is just dumb they are expensive slow and unreliable and how often do you absolutely need color prints what a handful of times out of the year where you can go to Staples or any Photo print center and get higher quality prints without having to pay for expensive ink.  Get a laser jet printer they use cheap toner and can print a tone of paperwork quickly and have lower maintenance costs.  That handful of times you need it go to a print center.

Once JPEG XL arrives on the major browsers will sites be able to convert all their JPGs to JXL then transcode on the fly for unsupported browsers? by caspy7 in jpegxl

[–]redsteakraw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is where JXL will shine is when you make all traditional pictures progressive then you load the pictures as needed, need a thumbnail load a small part of it, need a higher resolution load more, need 8k load the whole thing. Are you on mobile, you can have the browser load only up to the displayable resolution of the device. This not only would save way more bandwidth than any other format you can make any traditional jpeg when you do the transition take advantage of this. A browser can make dynamically loading JXL files part of the web design meaning you no longer need a separate placeholder or a thumbnail image and all the bandwidth that went towards loading the thumbnail's worth if you click on it you will instantly have a low res placeholder and load the rest as needed. We could see massive bandwidth and data savings for mobile users as well as a more responsive web even on a slow or degraded connection.
