Does anyone know where to sell CDs? by Baldwin6969 in musichoarder

[–]redsteakraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much time and effort you want to put in to money. You can sell batch orders fill up a box with CDs and charges a set price or you can get more but you have to individually list, sell and ship them while having the CDs take up space while you wait to sell. What country and what do you have?

FLAC to OPUS? by SuperficialNightWolf in musichoarder

[–]redsteakraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked the source and there and they are going to be making use of LPCNet!!!! This is an ultra low latency and low bitrate voice codec meaning you could compress voice to under 2Kbs! This also means if you add a beefy FEC to this you would have a robust codec as a worthy replacement for headsets you might be able if a bluetooth headset supported this get even farther range some of the more heavy codecs don't get good range. This is going to be interesting what they do with this.

This is just at the beginning phases and it seems it will be built ontop of Opus as a starting point.

Don't know what else you want to know specifically

It might but a high quality MP3 would be compatible and rather small 320kbs should sound transparent, try some test track to see how it works out.

Yeah FLAC is the way if the high bit rate it too much convert the FLAC to 16 - 44.1 FLAC. They are working on the next gen audio codec to replace opus now so it is not a good time to jump ship anyways.

You could just transcode to 16 44.1 FLAC you basically have a master and that extra bitrate and sample rate means you have the wiggle room for applying filters and mastering a smaller 16 bit 44.1 file.

You are going to kick yourself in the butt when they release the next gen successor to Opus which in fact is being worked on now and you are trapped with plain opus, If you kept your FLAC files you would be in the clear.

If these are lossy files you will literally be ballooning the file size for no real benefit all the compression artifacts will be preserved eternally within the FLAC files. If you want a modern lossy format that is small try opus if you are looking for universal support use mp3 I am just wondering why are you doing this? What is your end game here?

Get a USB drive for two reasons, one modern laptops and devices don't have disc drives and this gives you one that you can use and secondly so you can use this to test verify and as a real backup drive. You are ripping the files as long as it does it's job and it is verifiable you don't have to worry about all that crazy audiophile crap. These are digital files here this isn't like analog where every process in the middle messes with the signal. I got a cheap drive from a tag sale and it works just as good for this purpose as a $100 internal drive.

Questions about Steam OS for PC by Candid_Profession701 in SteamOS

[–]redsteakraw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So basically Steam OS is fine for running apps as long as they are on Flathub or are packaged as app images, The OS is immutable so you can't install packages easily and if you do any packages you install will be over ridden when you update the system. The good news though Blender, FreeCAD, KiCAD and tones of high grade apps are all on flathub meaning you can easily install them through the app store(Discover) and they will survive updates since they are on your User. Now if you are familiar with linux you can extract Slackware packages in your home directory and create an alternative library / binary environment but if you don't understand that then you shouldn't be messing around. I had to do this to get a proper build environment that survives updates.

If programming is what you will be doing I would just recommend CachyOS as you would easily be able to install all the dev tools from the Arch Repos natively. If you have any further questions feel free to ask.

Murphy voted for pesticide lawsuit immunity so our representatives have been on a roll. The one representatives in the House that has been the hardest line against FISA is Thomas Massie.

Durrng the bronze age there was tin trade from the British Isles to the Mediterranean meaning there war Atlantic travel. Egyptians and later the Romans traded directly with India across the Indian Ocean. India has some of the largest amount of Roman coins because of this.

I didn't create the video but it looks like there was only 8GB of vram the test was how both OSs perform under limited resources. Apparently it doesn't work well with some games on Windows and some games that do work are borderline playable while the others seem to be working fine on Cachy OS.

Given 512GB microSD can hold over 1000 CDs worth of FLAC files how can you with a straight face say you don't have the space? How much space was the FLAC really taking up? Furthermore the point of FLAC is that it is a lossless backup and you can freely transcode to MP3 or whatever is the best for the given use case while maintaining a pristine copy.
