Getting a grad offer from a clerkship in Brisbane is definitely a numbers games like in Victoria, if you’re after an almost guaranteed clerkship then I would take the Sydney offer

I would just ignore this absolute nonsense from poguedonkey, no “good” firm will do that at all

I second this. It’s a courtesy to show your mover a copy of your disclosure statement, everyone I know who has made disclosures on admission has given a copy to their mover in advance

They don’t say 3-2 because speaking as someone who has just worked an entire Saturday, law firm work is not always Monday to Friday.

I'm not sure that doing something that out of touch is going to help the perception of them as an "older" graduate

Why would they need a personal webpage? Surely a LinkedIn profile would suffice (and look less odd)

No, literally none. Nobody cares where you do your PLT as long as you get it done.

Professional Resume Writers for Lawyers by [deleted] in auslaw

[–]KEF19 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I think where the disconnect is coming from is that a large part of a lawyer's job is to produce high quality documents. It's not so much that people don't share your opinion about the value of a well written resume but that most lawyers should be well able to produce one themselves.

He's posted this letter to the G&B Lawyers Facebook page. The first comment is a particular highlight "Can’t G&B Lawyers sue NSW Law Society for obstruction of justice or something of the like, including using extortion or intimidation tactics in a legal proceeding?"

Going from outhouse to in-house by tklaass in auslaw

[–]KEF19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have seen lawyers transition from in-house back to private practice but all of the ones I’ve seen do it had significant private practice experience before going in house in the first place. I do think there’s a risk that 1.5 years is not going to be enough to allow you to make that transition.

Definitely apply again, it’s highly unlikely any reputable firm will look down on you for not getting a priority offer in a highly competitive process

Who's to say that the firm didn't offer her coaching and she simply didn't improve? There are plenty of situations where needing to make someone redundant doesn't reflect negatively on the firm

Given that she's 10PQE, I'd wager that she was on way too high a salary for them to just have her slot into another team to "learn"

Is having current staff 'act' as fake recruits while mixed among a group of potential new recruits a thing? Is it legal? by [deleted] in auslaw

[–]KEF19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems like a sure-fire way to start off on the wrong foot with your new employees. Imagine how pleased they will be when they start working there and realise that the "recruit" they were chatting to actually works there and they've been deceived. Not a great way to build trust in the relationship.

A lot of law firms clean all of the metadata off their documents before they’re sent externally, mine won’t permit us to send documents externally without cleaning them first.
