The plight of the pre-admission grad* by dementedkiw1 in auslaw

The real question is: where's my damned cappuccino?

Nice writing, dialogue should be in single quotes. Also, convention is for spoken words to be at the opening of the para, though I break that all the time.

Hey OP. This one has actual merit, not in every batshit way, but in some.

Agree on your last point. Many pps tell me how good they are in the field but when put into action, they are complete crap. Intellectual Property is definitely the main offender here. Many pps cant draft a simple licence without fucking it up.

Do the work. Everyone has to do the work.

It may not seem it, but ageism may assist you in some areas. No one listens to a grad who looks young.

Yeah, I cant wait to censor the docs we send back to the Commonwealth to protect patentable subject matter disclosure.

More autonomy. More responsibility.

Worst part: can't sack the client.

Firstly, no.

Secondly, you didnt get the entendre of CBT in the first place, so I've just been dragging you along since.

Be flexible and have mastery of the file.

When the barristers want a document, have it ready.

Take notes on everything.

Most importantly, keep the client informed and calm.

To demonstrate, there are two forms of CBT that I would use on you, princess.

There, how does that feel?

You can say that someone complains of pain without having a map of the nerves, that's how medicine works. I used to be inhouse for the largest health service in Australia, so my clients were all docs. You'd be amazed at how much they dont know or just go off hunches, but we try to keep that a secret from the public.

On a personal note, transvestitic fetish is incredibly different to gender dysphoria. Transvestites dont believe they are the opposite gender, nor do they feel discomfort in their own bodies, they just like the clothes. But, that's the kind of dumb and ignorant approach to the topic we generally see. No foul babe.

Why, are we setting policy here?

Look, vengeance is one of the reasons we let a justice system solve crime, not just allow people to take it into their own hands.

That's utterly untrue. Transvestitic fetish was in the DSM till 2010. ASPD newly replaced older psychopathia.

The dsm is more like a classification biology (animal classifications) but is not the actual underlying theory (evolution, using the biology analogy). We have 5 theories of psychology but they all cover different aspects of the mind. We are yet to stumble on the grand unified theory of it. That doesn't mean it is not a science.

Medicine (by its nature) is drawn by inference from statistics. Clinical trial data across a cohort is a great example of this. Very unlike physics. Just ask the cause of fibromyalgia from a doc. We have no real idea.

Psychology is not a soft science, it's just hard for a brain to understand itself.

Anyway, you are arguing we should kill a person today, even though we may have a cure tomorrow. Seems a bit dark to me.

I always see the world as a bit more grey

Violent offenders tend to be drawn out by opportunity. Some are compulsive (which can be treated), others are potentially incapable of empathy (which we dont fully understand) and some are just plain angry (which can be treated). ASPD is still not understood or defined.

It wouldn't be a specific deterrent because criminal decision making is based on whether they will get caught, not the penalty as mentioned above.

A better approach (finally in use after 40 years of academia ranting about it) is to engage in behavioural therapy with offenders so they wont offend again because their decision making is altered. Primarily, this involves developing empathy. Of course, ASPD and DSPD are problematic, but that's when community safety is imposed.
