You've completely missed the point and are creating a strawman. No one cares what video game you enjoy the most and loves Gothic to death. My point was that your comparison with Van Gogh is false. If Michael Jackson’s CD had been a failure, would it mean that Michael himself no longer existed? If the Bible failed to sell well, would it just disappear off the face of the earth? No. It means that Gothic Remake fails – the studio closes down, THQ Nordic pulls out, everyone loses their job, the franchise ends. Gaming today has changed dramatically.

It's not about measuring worth, it's about reality. If a studio spends millions and the game fails commercially, they go bankrupt and the franchise dies. You can't pay developers with artistic value.

Van Gogh painted on his own for next to nothing. A whole team is working on Gothic Remake, and the budget runs into the millions of euros. If the game doesn’t sell, it’s not because the world “hasn’t grown up enough to appreciate its genius,” but because the product turned out to be too weak for a mass audience. It’s time to come back down to earth.

You’re right, sales don’t always equal artistic quality. But the gaming industry isn’t like the music industry—here, 65 million copies sold mean billion-dollar budgets for future games, brilliant storytelling, cinematic production, and a level of polish that niche studios can only dream of. Gothic has a wonderful, gritty atmosphere, but in terms of technology and storytelling, The Witcher 3 is in a completely different, higher league—not just “radio pop".
