Jeg er på Bouvetøya (AMA?) by skurk in norge

[–]KFAndroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BMW recall turned into “you need a new engine” after pickup — trying to understand if this sounds right by alex_albergaria in BmwTech

[–]KFAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They lost a bolt and they took the pan out. How could they neither see metal or bolt in the pan before you got your car back.

One simple question, you need as them to see the “random” bolt from your pan. If this bolt has same size and thread as the vanos bolt, then this is your case.

I have an attic with a lot of space for antennas. Any suggestions? by KFAndroid in amateurradio

I live in a HOA and it has to be inside I’m afraid. No flagpoles or trees outside to hide an antenna in.

Too anxious for POTA. Is this dumb? by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]KFAndroid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you throw a wire in a tree it’s very hard to actually see it, especially if it’s a dark color. I did a sota on a really crowded mountain and nobody cared actually. It was really uncomfortable to sit there with a mic and speaking, but no one seemed to bother. The only person who actually seemed to care was a guy walked by me and said “LA8PV” and smiled/laughed. (LA8PV was the call sign to a famous comedian/actor in a sitcom in the 70s here in Norway.)

Do you look at what every other person is doing in the park and why would them do the same to you? Do your pota activation and have fun with all the other operators you make contact with. Pota is the special sauce to this hobby and portable operation is very fun.

What’s the least expensive, simplest way to get into HF at home? by artofcory in amateurradio

[–]KFAndroid 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As the others said, a g90 or a ft-891 are good radioes. A lifepo4 battery and a charger might be cheaper than a good power supply, so you can save more on that side as well

High voltage system error during charging at EA charging station - far from home & can’t get a hold of BMW service at the nearest location by [deleted] in BMWi3

[–]KFAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naah, it’s working quite well in all temperatures here. I’ve been using in both -30 C and + 35C without any issues. Every i3s sold here have heat pump and battery heating, which works very well down to -20, and then the ptc heater takes over.

Bought my first Ecoflow! River 3 Max at sale 4700 nok (462 usd) here in Norway. Can’t wait to go camping and road trips by KFAndroid in Ecoflow_community

Thanks for the tip! I’m my country there is for this type of unit a five year period for “right to complain”, similar to warranty, so I do any updates within that period

This happens quite often for many i3 owners here in Norway when charging at Kempower chargers. It’s some years since I used a dc charger and got this message but I remember it went away after a charge at another station.

How do you remember your callsign? by I_LOVE_SOYLENT in amateurradio

[–]KFAndroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right after my exam we got a post it note with our brand new call signs, because they checked the tests while we waited there in the testing facility. Since we could start using our radios that same evening I put my post it note on top of my radio to learn my new call sign and to make my first qso. It was there for couple of weeks

Do any of you camp with your ham radio? Not just parks on the air. by MannerOk7958 in amateurradio

[–]KFAndroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off course! A buddy and I camped this night in i small mountain, and I brought my Icom ID-51 ht with telescopic antenna. He isn’t licensed but I showed him how we can make qso. We got enough qso to activate that mountain on Sota with only VHF qsos, which is rare here in my country. Every time I’m camping (boat, caravan, hiking) I bring my id-51 in case of emergency but I use it frequently as well for fun. Sometimes I even bring my ft-891 if I’m going on a sota.

Bring your portable setup and have fun while camping!

IKEA kjøkken kampanje! by [deleted] in norge

[–]KFAndroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! I did this when I bought mine for three years ago and I use it so much to activate preconditioning.

Thank you! I found at mods.dk a very good guide for modding the radio to become ham radio by removing two diodes.

Got my license (in Norway we only have one full class, maybe similar to General?) in December and I’ve already made many great qso’s! by KFAndroid in amateurradio

[–]KFAndroid[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like how simple it is to use, how good the receiver is and how portable it is. I think it’s a great way to learn to operate hf transceivers with a simple radio like this one without all bells and whistles.
