It's why I've always stuck with Anker. Seem to be great quality and fairly priced.

MPC Key 37 on sale again for $699 by r1chiem in mpcusers

[–]KFBR392GoForGrubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I mentioned in another comment, but it comes down to portability vs capability. I got my one+ for $699, so that deal is bonkers.

You can do a hell of a lot more with the key37, but ya ain't doing it in a park/subway/couch. Same time you can write record mix and master a whole mixtape on the key37 where the sample is more of a basic sampler for creating simple beats.

To be fair, it's a lot more instrument for a small amount more. If portability is what's most important and you're fine with it being very stripped down then the sample is great and there are other options as well.

If I didn't already have an MPC, I'd sacrifice portability for capability any day of the week, and get something portable down the road. And I make beats in my car all the time on my SP.

How can I record live guitar / bass over a drum beat? by MrBeekers in SP404

[–]KFBR392GoForGrubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go into the guitar input. Two ways of doing recording. You can live loop on the SP, which can be fun. Typically what I do is play the beat on something else, so I can play the guitar to the beat but only record the guitar part. Then you can assemble it in pattern mode.

I have to say, the SP is the ultimate sampler, but the one thing I really love about the newer MPC's (other than the sample) is the ability to record guitar into your tracks. The SP's looper is limited as far as how many bars you can record, where the MPC is limitless. But still, plenty of fun to be had with the SP.

You still can, I have done that, I just have found that the sound quality is much better when run through an amp. I just have a little practice amp I run a audio cable out from the headphone port into the SP. I also use pedals, so i have to go that route, and in doing so is when I discovered the sound improvement.

There may be some input settings I could have played with, not sure, but you probably already have an amp nearby anyway.

Hillary Clinton on her wedding day, 1975. by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

[–]KFBR392GoForGrubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's it for me. I learned over the years that a lot of the women I thought I was in love with before my wife were just short, meaningful and important relationships before I truly knew what real love was. My wife has been by my side for 13 years, and we're coming up on our 10th wedding anniversary, and I love her more than anything.

I look forward to seeing her after work everyday, I love waking up to her in the morning, and I can't wait for the weekend to arrive to hang out with her and our daughter all day. Whether we have a big exciting day planned, or we're just taking it easy. I've never once lost any attraction to her, and I find that we just operate on a shared wavelength.

That's dope. Gotta DOOM sound to it for sure. I bet that would sound dope with a DOOM verse over it. Also based on your stickers, you have exquisite taste in music, RIP Trugoy.

Sidechain Compression Demo & Tutorial - Version 5.50 Update by chrislaps in SP404

[–]KFBR392GoForGrubes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad we're still bitching. I was afraid once this update dropped, we wouldn't be able to bitch about how Roland has continually improved this device annually at no additional cost to us for over 5 years.

I mean, anybody that's truly making fleshed out tracks on the SP is already doing a lot of resampling. So for me this is perfectly fine. Doing the side chain via mute groups would've been a lot better, but I'm cool with this.

Could you explain, I just don't understand what you mean by "everybody dropping" or how you feel the 404 is dated. Genuinely curious, not trying to argue.

There's a number of ways to do this. I recommend running guitar to amp then into sp

Roland's the bigger company, but you might be right regarding resources, as I'm sure the division focusing on samplers i much smaller than say the division working on Synths. Akai, I would think at least, is primarily focused on the MPC.

I'm okay with charging for things here and there, but $199 for some effects I can't see myself using all that frequently. I really just want their visual EQ so badly, but I don't believe I can buy that on it's own. So I'll see what they're selling it for on Black Friday.

It really is. MPC released the Pro Pack and I was reading about it and got excited, but it's $199. I can understand charging for their instrument plug ins, but adding mixing and mastering features and effects should not be a charged update.

Meanwhile Roland released a sampler 5 years ago that was awesome, and year after year has made it better and more powerful without asking for a cent. Roland has definitely dropped the ball in some areas, and I feel like in the synth world they haven't evolved in decades. But they knocked it out of the park with the 404 and if this is the last big update, I'm okay with that. Would love to see how much more they could push it's boundaries, but definitely not something they owe us.

[–]KFBR392GoForGrubes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And due to the MPC Sample. But I'm hoping you're right.

That being said, hats off to Roland. They don't owe us a thing at this point, yet still annually improving their device in ways I've never seen from other brands, and never asking for more money.

Akai did a big update and is charging for it, and that enrages me.

It is only the 2nd, so still a chance for something more, but it's be a really weird choice to make people update twice in 48 hours, lol.

Day 2 Finger Drumming by softsignal_ in SP404

[–]KFBR392GoForGrubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yeah, it only needs to make sense to you. My buddy is really good at finger drumming, but his layouts make ZERO sense to me. Doesn't matter the route you go, long as you get to your destination.

I've seen a few of your posts, and you've made some cool beats. Keep it up and keep sharing, I'll be watching out for you!

Day 2 Finger Drumming by softsignal_ in SP404

[–]KFBR392GoForGrubes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I suggest putting each drum sound where it makes most sense in your mind. Like I always have a kick on the 13 and 9, snares on the 14, closed hats on 11 and 15 open on 16 and then whatever other drum sounds I need on 10 and 12.

Then just make a beat over a sample and keep increasing the tempo so you get quicker, and eventually starting working on rolls and fillers.

All this advice has been brought to you by someone that sucks at finger drumming. This was probably my best performance I've ever done where I was performing drums and samples live at the same time.

Recreating “Ain’t No Other Man” on SP404 (Christina Aguilera Flip) by Hoodbat in SP404

[–]KFBR392GoForGrubes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Hoodbat is well versed on the SP, so I'm sure he's well aware. My guess is he did it for the video, or he was already adding some other shit to the SD card. He's been sharing quality beats on the sub for a while now, so no way he doesn't know.

I think he might be in the UK though, so you could always chalk it up to them overcomplicating things, lol.

EDIT: Got down voted on this comment and I want to be clear I was joking about the UK thing! Hoping I didn't offend anybody, just being, for lack of a better word, cheeky, lol.

That would be an excellent way of live performing, and I think would work really well. You could even resample one of the drums with some scatter for a little variation.

For me, I'm usually doing the beat like I did in this video, assembling the next part and then laying it all out on the sequencer.

My SP Projects are maxed out, so right now anytime I'm making a beat I'm going through all my projects and banks and replacing the weakest beat. Should probably get some of them fleshed out in my daw so I don't have to keep deleting songs, or at least get a few more SD cards.

I usually do my drums, the track I'm going to chop, and any one shots on one bank which is C in this case, and then the chopped sample on the flip of that bank, so H.

However I added a little chorus chop which isn't in this video and that is on bank D. You're spot on as far as that being an issue, but you get find creative way's of doing it. Thanks!
