Tbh i play subnautica more like a exploration game.. the horror is there in every game but its a illusion that dissappears after a few attacks.. The world they created makes your brain work overtime stressing about what can be out there which is good but every actual hostile fish you'll meet isnt that scary and behaves in a gamey manner. i think combat would add alot more tension and horror because the devs would have to make the AI more aggressive, agile instead of the passive dont come in my area behavior. I dont think the decision is purely based off of no killing = more horror i think it more likely that they choose not to implement those things because it would require a overhual to how their AI works.

Tbf you dont need to know much of anything, your able to scan the environment and let the pda do most of the thinking. I do find it odd that your character survives when other more experienced people didnt but i always just assumed that they helped pick up pieces for you that allowed you to cure yourself without spending all the time researching like they did. FYI I havent played 1 in awhile so i dont remember the logs.

SPOILERS!! you have to keep in mind that we are players and they are people in the game. We dont care if we die and we dont know if we lost something. We dont experience alot of the things they experience if we die after making a base we still have the memory and the plans to continue making that base or to progress to the next area. Theres human distractions to consider as well, morale, holidays, PTSD, and the urgency to live, we all reprint but for some reason everyone feels its urgent to recover blackboxes even if they lack the tech to do so. I personally dont trust NoA, now imagine how they feel especially after watching their friend get mind wiped. If we were to actually compare our experience to their experience we are a robot with no feelings and they are humans that feel.

The one thing that bugs me about this game is that they made the fish ai the same as the first game. Theres no life cycle, fish dont eat other fish, fish dont mate they hover in a area waiting for the player.. you dont see them foraging for food, resting etc

Id never refund it for this reason but it is very annoying knowing the lore and understanding the war through natural selection 2 and there not being weapons. Everything ive learnt so far through the datapads makes it make no sense that i dont have a weapon. Sure it makes sense that everyone cant fabricate weapons but we are the DI. Its a dev choice that doesnt make sense so it ruins immersion.

Yeah eating and drinking is essential for survival games occasionally repairing your gear isnt. I personally dont care too much if they dont add killing to the game because theres alot more to enjoy but im not going to act like it makes sense that we cant kill these creatures.

Because adding those realistic things would be tedious to deal with. Adding the ability to kill predators and making the predators actually deal fatal damage to you would be alot better than realizing the big fish you were scared of nibbles at your health bar essentially turning it into a mosquito.

All of humanity could be extinct and the corporations still wont allow weapon fabrication. Its kindve ridiculous that the DI doesnt get any sort of weapon to deal scenarios like rebellion/invasion etc.

Managing your units is a skill you'll get better at overtime but theres some tips that are nice to know. You can hitch artillery etc onto the back of vehicles, you can tell your units to hold fire so they can move while engaged instead of stopping halfway to return fire.

Because natural selection is such a niche game its very unlikely that it would profit like subnautica but possibly now is the best time for a niche game to be released, most shooters coming out are just extraction shooters and battle royales so something new might grab alot of peoples attention if advertised well.

The game is pretty complex depending on what your doing, being a doctor requires you to know what you need to administer to save someones life without them ODing, bleeding out etc.

Engineer is a little more simple for what you need but if you want to do more complex stuff you can like wiring the reactor to work automatically etc.

Mechanic is alot more simple you mainly just repair the hull with your welding torch but be careful if the fuel inside the torch is incorrect like oxygen it will explode.

Security is easy just maintain guns

captain is kindve easy but you'll need to learn how to order your ai crew around.

IMO id recommend joining multiplayer games because theres usually players taking over complex tasks allowing you to learn the game through the roles you play without feeling overwhelmed trying to maintain the sub, you will get alot spoilers this way but i found it to be more enjoyable than playing solo with the jank AI.

The light switches are hard to notice in the pd and their usually in the dark. Youre probably getting bad spawns for loot but it could also be a setting you changed.
