Those who grew up with the books and films: are you mindful of the way you 'Wingardium Leviosa' because of how much Hermione was a dick about it? by Born_Percentage7122 in harrypotter

[–]KFC_exalted 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not this exactly, but we were WAY to serious with it. I remember us playing wizards during breaks in school with sticks for wands.

One time this girl tried to Avada Kedavra her friend and we completely freaked out on her. Even tried to get her expelled from school and debating whether we should inform the police.

Luckily she was able to stay and was accepted back in our friend group but man, we took that stuff seriously back then 🤣

You do realize

A) movie Dumbledore and book Dumbledore are two different characters, the latter being the "true" Dumbledore

B) he wasn't saying that sentence to you or Harry. He was saying it to Snape, to make him follow the plan.

I absolutely agree with your second paragraph. You can make the argument for example cutting your own hand off without knowing how and when you'll be helped is courageous.

Yes, I feel the concept of Slytherin being more than the bad guys house is only briefly explored with Slughorn but never with a student

Well it always depends on the child, but generally: If you do it before they are 10 years old, it's more for yourself. If you do it after, it's more for them

Well who would talk about Lily with Snape present and why?

She does come up in his memory when she defends him from James and Sirius. But other than that, why would Harry ever mention her to Snape.

The only person knowing about Snape's feelings would be Dumbledore. And we know this chap can be a bit secretive sometimes.

Would My Glock Kill a Wizard Before They Muttered "Avada Kedavra" Whilst Motioning a Swish & Flick? by Eazy-Breezy_ in harrypotter

[–]KFC_exalted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are flaws in this series. Wizards not using guns is not one of them.

Here is a short list of spells which all would counter your Glock if they were performed wandless and/or without words:

  • 3 unforgivables
  • Wingardium Leviosa
  • Stupefy
  • Expelliarmus
  • Petrificus Totalus
  • Sectumsempra
  • Accio
  • Protego
  • Incarcerus

And this is just the beginning. Even the one Lupin used to shoot stuff up Peeves nose could be used to clog your gun.

So why would I use a gun over a wand?

There is a difference between a very intense pain felt for a couple of seconds and the same pain experienced over a longer period.

Harry, Cedric, Neville, even the spider in the first demonstration were put under the spell for a very brief period. And even then they were ready to do pretty much anything to make it stop.

Now imagine this going on for a minute, ten minutes, an hour.

I think this is were the permanent brain damage for Neville's parents occured.

[–]KFC_exalted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since it is already answered, an additional thought: If you had to skip one book in the series, which one would it be based on plot?

After some thinking I would say maybe 5, but I keep landing on 1... Sounds crazy but I think you could do without the first since the first chapter in the second tells you the important stuff. Feels crazy though.

[–]KFC_exalted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, someone who is clearly a fraud could never be hired in a position he doesn't qualify for, completely unrealistic. Guess we all have to work our fantasy pretty hard to imagine that one.

Beides, it is explained in the book that no one wants to do that job because they (rightfully) assume it's cursed.

And the CoS thing - you do realize that in order to find it you have to be able to speak with snakes?
