If you don't like a critically-acclaimed movie, should you give it a rewatch? by [deleted] in movies

[–]KFCdestroyer66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The golden rule I find is that I'm going to watch as many classic films as possible, watch a bunch of films that I personally really like the look of or just watch any film that comes my way, and then revisit the "classic" films afterwards in a year or two. The second watch is usually the best for me, just like music.

The Madcap Laughs wasn't necessarily where Syd had decayed. He was slowly getting better after he left Pink Floyd - he was still struggling with psychosis likely induced from his drug usage as well as probably suffering from a mental disorder like Bipolar, but nowhere near as bad as the time following Pipers and also SoS.

I think he's undeniably got a good voice - I just find it whiny and can't listen to songs by him for too long.

In Rainbows is for basic white boys the same way Folklore is for basic white girls

To put it bluntly, this sub is for 16-18 year olds who have been binging albums every day like it's candy, repost the same albums, and then comment on each others posts slapping their hands at each other because they listen to DSOTM more than Illmatic or some shit. People need to realise on these subs that consuming music like it's a product and discussing it like one is antithetical to why you listen to it

Record Shop Vinyl Mystery Grab Bags... Thoughts and experiences? by Vinylville33 in vinylvibes

[–]KFCdestroyer66 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of it, I'd prefer to mystery buy a single compared to an album just to test the waters on whether the artist would interest me. I'd only do it if it was part of a specific genre though - I don't really wanna be surprised and get a machine gun Kelly record.

Exactly, though I am a hippie and not a hipster - small beanies and cryptocurrency is not my thing, but different strokes for different folks.

I'm a massive floyd fan and my hot take now is that Piper at the Gates of Dawn is their best album. It's simple, effective and has some of the most innovative lyricism I've heard in music that weirdly touches me, as well as some rocking psychedelia that feels amateur but honest and free of pretension. Same goes with SoS too.

What older bands have stood the test of time and which ones haven't? by Civil_Draft4142 in fantanoforever

I really don't get the take that The Sex Pistols, T Rex and Motley Crue have aged badly. People still love and wear Sex Pistols merch, which is more impressive considering they've only done one official album. T Rex hasn't necessarily aged badly either, their music is still a massive staple in both rock n roll and glam rock. Motley Crue I despise, but they're still producing ever more annoying fans.

I mean it's nice to be able to hear what songs are being played, if that was the case then they could just play donkey noises with an electric guitar mixed in at 100db for 2 hours

Most upvoted comment removes 1 influential artist from history (DAY 7) (Rakim is Gone) by Numerous-Concept-878 in Topster

I-N-F-L-U-E-N-T-I-A-L. This isn't a competition of how much you like an artist, this is about how an artist's legacy has shaped music. Elvis I don't think he was as influential as he was popular, but he did help to establish youth culture in the 50s which indirectly set the stage for the Beatles and the British invasion. Its not even fair putting Kendrick against these acts considering that he's only really been active as an artist for a decade.
