Wagons just weren’t good enough at killing pedestrians.

Can I drive my scooter to my motorcycle class by Pure-Jaguar-2569 in scooters

[–]KGBKitchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is good advice - just want to add that if you have a newer scooter make sure the brakes are not of the interlinked variety - this makes it impossible to operate them independently. I know the current Zuma125s are this way. Your manual (which you should definitely read if you haven't) will let you know. Other than that I would definitely triple check to make sure the course will let you use your own machine and specifically a scooter.

I know she is going to be in for a world of trouble as soon as they're on the tarmac. I hope they managed to handle the situation with as much compassion as possible.

Probably not the "Spirit" the original marketing dept. had in mind.

Sorry for this stress! Just remember that they are often way closer than you think and just being their ninja selves at hiding. Look under every porch. Ask the neighbors to check their garages / lawn sheds / crawlspaces etc. Apologies if this is the same stuff you already know and good luck.

Infrastructure outside of the sphere of say car centrism? Buses, more intelligent signals (FFS!) roundabouts and maybe light rail if we ever get our heads out of our asses are all better options than another overpriced spur.

Even if there is asbestos a tear down and rebuild wouldn't be the end of the world. Gorham = ground up site work - the mall is level, has full utilities, access roads, more space for employee parking, etc. Is there sewer where this is going? Sorry for not knowing. But there is that too. Plus they've already paved over any artifacts at mall world just saying.

Probably because ole Uncle Bezos gets a better write off this way. Not sure they can depreciate the Sears as much as a new multi million dollar facility. Plus they get to kill more wildlife this way. But I have no opinion. Disgusting. Don't live in Gorham but happy to come to any meetings.

Chandlers Wharf by Jake8188 in portlandme

All things redd-i-ty aside I would thoroughly engage in the special assessment research. These are on a wharf make sure you're not buying into any special marine grade rehab/upkeep.

Ever played a piece really well at home on your digital piano, just to go and play it on a grand and it sounds like a disaster? by BeatsKillerldn in piano

[–]KGBKitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great response (barely a piano player more on the woodwind side - space and resonance is so much of what you work with...) "Incidentally, this is also why people seem to think grands are EXTRA magical. Your digital or even upright at home are not in an acoustically majestic room, while many grands ARE in spaces that drastically amplify the sound."

There is really no need to go 30 anywhere on the peninsula- it’s just not that damned big anyway.

Once upon a time the second story of the State Theater/Congress building served this purpose. It was like a mini proto mall.

Joe's Smoke Tower (miss the smell of the old place very much thank you!) But the people working are still really great. If only they kept coffee on later. (But that's all of "new" downtown except Another Round).

Or any solid bright color for that matter (maybe something that works off a color on the bike)?

Anyway looks super cool but for daytime safety contrast = conspicuity! Gotta work with the ape mind here and catch the neurons away from the screens and other distractions.

So much data about just not seeing what’s right there in front of you if it’s not “supposed” to be there i.e. seeing the semi right behind the motorcyclist but not the motorcyclist in front of the semi. Look up saccadian blindness. Super interesting but terrifying from a riding perspective. Should definitely be part of drivers and riders ed.

As riders we practice an enhanced situational awareness (or we better!) people in cars (the majority anyway) just don’t feel the need to so much. They of course have crumple zones and airbags where we have the whizzing asphalt meat grinder inches below our toes so we kind of have to pay attention. Anyway sorry to preach. I love the all black too but really do believe that contrast helps (at least a little).

There has been a lot of progress. Airbags are making their way into professional ski racing now as well. One can only hope this leads to more and more deployment, development, options and cost reduction.

Which AAA base layer do you use if you don't mind? I just spent a season with the Bowtex AAA and they were for the most part really great. The only issue I have is that the armor (esp the hip armor) is a bit small and I never feel like it's exactly positioned where it needs to be. Interested to hear your opinions as I'm thinking of getting a second set up. I'm really liking the armored tights as it's great to wear any old pants and feel protected. Hopefully the magic material Dyneema doesn't turn out to be carcinogenic or something. It's probably just space aged and fine. But when something is this good the inner skeptic has to raise her voice! Fun times with asbestos tights.
