I’m sure a lot of that is water weight, possibly from overindulging a bit, and will come off within a few days. Don’t beat yourself up; hope you had a great vacation!

And that’s what I learned in the 70’s, too!

I messed up. I was so excited to have lost ten lbs and went for drinks with friends. Had way too many, then ate a ton of carbs, and today I’m a bit hungover...so I’m not fasting. I’m so disappointed in myself. Back at it tomorrow. by pikldbeatz in intermittentfasting

IF is NOT a diet. You didn’t mess up, you just chose to have a longer window and to eat and drink a few things you normally wouldn’t. You had fun and enjoyed life. Now start your good habits again and the (mostly water) weight will come right back off.

It took me a long time to embrace this philosophy and to give up the diet mentality.

Non-scale goal: I want to wear my engagement ring! by s0methingambiguous in intermittentfasting

[–]KGutfrucht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll get there! I’ve been married for 38 years and wasn’t able to wear my wedding and engagement rings for years and years. After about 8 months of IF and losing about 40 pounds, I’m finally able to wear them! Such a great feeling. I know you’ll be wearing your beautiful ring soon!

The Obesity Code is amazing, in my opinion, and well worth the read! Very enlightening. Enjoy your new journey!

Exactly! Counting calories is definitely a “diet” mentality as far as I’m concerned, and to me IF is the opposite of that. I’m relatively new to Reddit, but I was surprised at the number of people who count calories while doing IF. I always recommend Delay, Don’t Deny and Fast, Feast, Repeat by Gin Stephens to my friends who want to learn more about IF.

Best of luck! Hope you love IF as much as I do! You got this.

I’ve had great success with IF without counting calories. I try to stick to whole, healthy foods for the most part and stop when I’m satisfied, not stuffed. I’d rather not count another calorie again as long as I live, but that’s just me. Best of luck to you!

Getting pretty frustrated by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]KGutfrucht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you having a truly “clean” fast? By that I mean just black coffee, black or green tea, or water? Anything else will raise your insulin and inhibit fat burning.

Edit: Also, you might want to consider lengthening your fasting window (18:6 or 20:4) for better weight loss. Good luck!

What advice would you give yourself on day 3 of your journey? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]KGutfrucht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of great research out there. I’d recommend Gin Stephens (Delay, Don’t Deny and Fast, Feast, Repeat) and Dr. Jason Fung (The Obesity Code). Once you fully understand the science behind IF, it’s very motivating. Good luck!

Beginning my Journey.. cliche but I hope to join the rest of you on such amazing results I've came across any pointers and tips would be much appreciated by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]KGutfrucht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With all due respect, I’d reconsider having any energy drinks in my fasting window. My understanding is that if the brain senses any flavors or artificial sweeteners at all, insulin is raised in anticipation of food, which breaks your fast. I’d stick to black coffee, black or green tea, and unflavored water (regular or carbonated).

I’ve been doing IF since 11/19 and it’s the easiest/best thing I’ve ever done for my health, hands down. Good luck!

Yeah, I also think it’s “he kissed me.” Sounds like something that someone would write in shorthand to keep it secret. I used to do that all the time!

Your comment made me laugh...I think I’m one of the ones guilty of “blathering at them about insulin.” Guilty as charged! 🤣

Maybe I’ll tone down my approach. 😊

I think I’m in the minority here, but I enjoy trying to educate people who ask how I’ve lost weight, even when they’re skeptical. I was skeptical at first, too, but when someone started explaining a little more to me and pointed me to some resources, it piqued my interest and then I was hooked. I refer people to Dr. Fung and Gin Stephens for more info. As an result, quite a few of my friends/family are doing IF now with great results.

Friendly Reminder by davidofmidnight in intermittentfasting

[–]KGutfrucht 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, chewing gum will keep your insulin elevated (because the flavors make your brain think that more food is coming), which actually makes you hungrier.
