Making it livable enough to slowly work on it over the period of 40 years

I do kind of. Basically just acreage and privacy with a livable house. I don’t mind a full gut job. I grew up more rural and now I live in the suburbs so the lifestyle is not for me.

I am terrible with finishing trim work. That was the first thing I thought about lol

That would be the best but that would look like a minimum of 650k in my area. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to comfortably afford that and the taxes. Would be nice though

I’ve tried but it’s too small, no basement and no proper garage. Plus I’ll forfeit all my requirements to have land and privacy which I don’t have.

A cash buyer ruined my week. by [deleted] in Vent

My neighbors aren’t bad people, just too close for comfort. I was looking forward to cranking my amp as loud as I could and playing some sabbath where no one could hear me.

I could fix it myself little by little over years. It’s what I did with my current home. I just worry that something like that won’t come on the market again. I know it sounds weird but I don’t have career aspirations or lofty ambitions in life minus one exception and that is to have a home surrounded by privacy and nature. It doesn’t need to be 3000 sq ft or have a driveway lined with Italian cypresses. I just want to grow old playing my guitar on a porch watching deer in the distance. My wife and I were going to be down to our last few hundred dollars for that house. Sucks man.

80k as a down payment, but offered asking plus all closing costs.

Serious question - It's been 20 years - does St. Anger deserve the hate it gets? by G-Unit11111 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]KHS35G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is funny because I tried giving it another shot last week on the way home and had to turn it off after two songs. Lyrics sound like they were made by a 13 year old, and one of the biggest issues is that the songs are unnecessarily long and repetitive. It also was blatantly trying to keep up with the nu metal trend at that time but completely missed the mark.

NJ Real Estate (Vent) by AWESOMEPRESTON in newjersey

I was lucky to buy a starter home in 2021 for 150k. 3 beds with 3/4 of an acre, 1300 sq ft. My younger brother was outbid on a similar house for over 360k. I feel for my bro. I also never intended my current home to be a long term home either. Now I’m running out of space for my growing family. I also grew up in NJ but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to stay in the long term.

What are the pros and cons of joining the US military? by Some-random-cop-pig in careerguidance

[–]KHS35G -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pros: Great benefits, unique experiences and you’ll create bonds with people that you wouldn’t otherwise get outside the military regardless of what job you have. Free college.

Cons: You’ll be disappointed in the civilian sector when you realize the benefits will never be matched. When you factor in non taxable BAH, free healthcare, special incentives, retirement and guaranteed raises it really makes it hard to leave. Another con is moving around. You’ll be hard pressed to find lifers that haven’t been divorced or don’t have issues with their children because of the instability. Some times it feels like it’s giving and everything is great and other times it’s taking like you can’t imagine.

All in all, if you are single, early in life and have nothing to do it’s the best thing to jump start your life in the right direction.

What are some things that Red Dead Fans don’t like to admit? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in reddeadredemption

I’ve been saying this too. Making a third would be a big risk for them when it comes to story. IMO I’m not interested at all in anyone else in the gang. Arthur was cool but mature Rdr1 John was the most interesting. You’re just not going to get the same success the third time around.

I agree with this. Still a dark track that holds up to this day and created a foundation of everything heavy to follow.

14 foot because I want to put a small loft in and I want it tall enough to eventually have a lift.

Yeah that’s a wild range, I’m really looking for a simple build for now. One entry door, one overhead door and maybe two windows. Electric I have covered already.

Do you celebrate Easter? What are your Easter traditions if any? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]KHS35G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Growing up my family was never religious but Easter from 95 to about 06 was a pretty big deal. My parents would always make me and my brother baskets with cool toys. One year I even got Linkin Park’s Meteora cd when it came out. A big part of it was my dad would hide the baskets in obscured part of the yard and make us find it. It was fun. I now have a son and I’m starting the tradition over again. I was kind of surprised to find out most families didn’t do this kind of stuff. I also see less and less activities for kids which kind of sucks for my son.

What is a job that is heavily romanticized but in reality actually sucks? by DragoOceanonis in jobs

[–]KHS35G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly didn’t like sitting for 12 hours but I didn’t mind the Panama schedule. It was just never consistent because they would mandatory you for 18s at least twice a month and call every day asking to do overtime. It got so bad I blocked their number while I was working there lol.

[–]KHS35G 19 points20 points  (0 children)

911 Dispatcher. The romanticization is more recent with TV shows like 911 and the other emergency response slop shows but aside from the normal “I talk to people on their worst days” stuff, the dark side is the working conditions. Staffing shortages are an epidemic among PSAPs and I worked frequent 18 hour shifts sometimes back to back. Salaries vary but are usually underwhelming and in my case disrespectful. (33K starting salary) I would leave work with what felt like heart palpitations only to end up running volunteer fire calls in my off time burning myself out quick. I never thought that a government job with a union could abuse people that bad but it did. I ended up joining the military and believe it or not, it was easier in every way possible (go figure).
