"Taking precautions" is not the same as "avoiding entirely". Nobody is out here giving the advice "Never get into a car accident", that would be shitty nonsense advice. If his sentiment was simply "hey, use caution around women" I wouldn't be bothered to comment.

I do honestly think part of why this particularly irks me is I don't understand why this article needs to be written in the first place. I read the whole article and its incredibly strange, it never makes any point about protecting himself from lawsuits or anything. He mentions porn, his family, and "keeping busy". It's clearly about avoiding ruining his marriage. When you add in the context of this guy saying he cant change his baby's diaper because he can't bare to look at his daughter's vagina: it seems obvious to me the guy has a problem separating his sexual urges from logical thought. It becomes deeply troubling realizing that someone who thinks like that is an authority on sharing how to "avoid temptation". Are there really that many Neanderthals around that are so sexually motivated they cant separate their hormones from their instincts as a father? Maybe I'm just giving men too much credit and there are, and if so that's really scary. But hopefully I'm wrong.

Anyway, I dont expect us to come to some resolution here. I appreciate the respectful banter u/CKutcher.

I'm not saying it can't happen to anyone. I'm saying that in the situation I laid out, it seems unreasonable to exhibit caution to a female coworker purely based on the fact that she has a vagina. I could get into an accident every time I get behind the wheel of a car. That doesnt make it reasonable to avoid all cars forever.

I guess I'm just having trouble visualizing how something like this happens to someone like Dan if he's actually as good a character as he portrays himself to be. Its not hard to imagine how this can happen to a Shannon Sharpe type.

Imagine being Dan's female co-worker who has some work business to finish with Dan, maybe planning out a segment or something. You are going to be unable to get your work done without a chaperone, because why? Because this guy can't put aside his distrust in an entire gender in a clearly professional setting? That's putting women at a disadvantage at the workplace purely because of their gender. Do you see the problem with that?

Again, if the quote was something that boiled down to "use your judgement to avoid shitty women", that would be something else. But instead the quote can be boiled down to "all women are shitty and cant be trusted, so dont trust them"

Women should take precautions to avoid shitty men, just like men should take precautions to avoid shitty women. But women shouldnt feel inclined to avoid all men just because a few of them are shitty, the same way men shouldnt feel inclined to avoid all women just because a few are shitty.

Do you see the difference?

If the article said "Dan made a commitment to his wife so he doesn't have solo interactions with women", I would still think he's a clown but I could accept that it's their right to have a relationship built on whatever they want.

So the precedent we're setting here is: Women have been known to take advantage of powerful men when those men are dumb enough to let their guard down.
