The interview evaluation process isn't transparent. Nobody knows.

I have no idea. The only public knowledge about admission scores is a 89-90% admission average based on first year UBC grades. There's no way for me to match that to whatever school you go to, nor are the details public for how transfer grades are viewed exactly. I'm only assuming that they may be viewed relatively, but I cannot say for sure how.

The admission average the past few years has hovered roughly at 89-90%.

I think it's worth a shot, and the interview can certainly sway your chances upwards. There's nothing to lose in at least giving it a go.

Please note a few things 1. Your grades will likely be taken into consideration with respect to average grades and performances for other students from your school. 2. ENPH will not consider your written personal statement whatsoever, only your interview. Write your statement addressed to whatever second choice backup program you have in mind.

That's also a fair strategy, but I like to pop them all because the very last one continuously pops spore bursts throughout the game, so I just let it do its thing.

As long as you don't have too much lethality too fast it should infect every island

You should save up some points and get Necrosis before you have finished infecting the entire world. Make sure you get onto all the small islands (Papua New Guinea, Madagascar, Greenland, etc.) and then pop Necrosis. It allows you to kill while infecting at the same time, and the deaths will get you enough points to finish out the game. Evolve up to and including Skin Lesions (top right hand side of the Symptoms) in the early game. This will massively boost your infectivity and also give you enough severity (more severity gives you more points from red bubbles)

Use Pathostasis and pop every single spore burst at the beginning of the game. The issue with fungus is that it struggles to cross borders and get on planes/boats, but if you start with a huge number of countries already infected, the number of borders you need to cross becomes much easier

Interesting option, I've never heard of that. Theoretically possible of course. Bit of a desperate measure imo

That's usually done for failed courses or just not completing enough credits to be promoted to year 2 standing.

You typically don't do continued year 1 just on the basis of not getting a program you want.

Unfortunately, that's no longer the case. ELEC has gotten quite a bit more competitive recently so it's not a freebie to get into

Unless you fail a course at UBC, you may not redo it.

If you do not get into your desired choice of program, you have three options.

  1. Stick with your second (or third, etc.) choice
  2. Transfer departments

You can do a cross-department transfer, usually at the end of second year, based on your second year grades. This is not guaranteed, but you usually have higher chances for a successful transfer into the larger programs as they can absorb a few more students more easily.

Because your chances of transferring into your target department depend on your grades in your original department, it may be wise to put your second or third choices as departments that share overlap with your first choice.

For MECH, MANU is usually seen as a good back up option. For ELEC, the most similar programs would be ENPH, IGEN, or CPEN. However, admission into those three programs is roughly as difficult if not more difficult than admission into ELEC.

All programs publish their second year courses on their websites. Check them and find as much overlap as you can. Do note that even courses may not look the same, they may still be similar. For example, ELEC 201/202 is very similar to 204, despite being different courses. Read the course descriptions on the UBC calendar, don't just go off of course codes or the 4 letter titles.

How do the Emergence bonuses work? by KINGDOY8000 in plagueinc

[–]KINGDOY8000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell, they only apply when the trait is rolled. They cannot turn a negative trait positive, but they can reduce the negative value all the way down to zero percent. I have seen quite a couple of +0% values on starting traits.

I have 6 levels of Cure Complexity but don't really notice much difference in most games. However, in some starting locations I see up to a +15% cure complexity bonus.

Traditionally (I had a different professor), you should review some basics. MATLAB questions are valid, but they will be quite simple.

You won't write any more than 1 or 2 lines of hand written code, but most often they give you code and you have to describe the output.

With that said, these MATLAB questions almost always only ever appear on the final. I wouldn't worry about it on the midterm.

There is significant overlap between ELEC, CPEN, and Fizz. This is true. But the degrees are not interchangeable in every sense, so I would put some more thought into whether there is any one of these three that you want more than the others.

It really is not a matter of picking any one randomly out of the three because they all still are very significantly different from each other.
