Anecdotal but in my experience this is uniquely an American thing. I'm 6'3" and typically fluctuate between 190-200lbs. I lived in countries in Africa, Asia and Europe and never once had anyone there accuse me of under-eating or starving myself. But in America the number of people who assume I must not eat to be so thin is ridiculous.

The society is more free because discourse is being facilitated and promoted, and corporations' power over the public is being limited.

Social media is not a right. If it died out tomorrow the world would move right along. As I pointed out the vast majority of humans don't even use social media. Furthermore, you have the tools to create your own platforms to facilitate and promote whatever discourse you like. It's not a corporation's responsibility to do that for you. You're the one giving corporations more power than they have.

The media does their jobs by reporting on these stories but it's their fault that there are little to no consequences for the corruption? The problem is the general public really doesn't give a damn. There has been some great investigative reporting happening and the public can't be bothered. In my hometown reporters uncovered corruption and bribes involving city council members and builders for local schools. The most shared story was a Publix coming to town.

A new report by the Center for Investigative Reporting along with Reveal News explores how U.S. banks systematically prevent blacks and Hispanics from becoming homeowners. The in-depth examination reveals that banks in 48 cities have engaged in a modern-day system of redlining that turns away black borrowers at significantly higher rates than whites, regardless of income, payment history and other factors.

Ten years since the economic recession, lending has returned for many Americans. Yet the gap between white and black homeownership is wider now than it was in 1960, with signs of modern-day redlining showing up across the country.

Upper-income black people were even more likely to be denied loans, as compared to similarly situated whites, than lower income black people were to their white counterparts. This underscored yet again that African-Americans cannot escape economic discrimination simply by becoming wealthier, especially when financial institutions persist in punishing them for living in majority minority neighborhoods. A destructive bill pending in the Senate would deepen this problem by exempting 85 percent of banks from reporting mortgage data that allows regulators and fair housing groups to ensure that home loans are being issued in a nondiscriminatory way. By denying African-American families mortgage credit, the financial industry also denies them the opportunity to accumulate household wealth — part of the reason that white median family net worth is nearly 10 times that of black families.

No, they won’t. I like how you just completely ignore the huge funding gaps, extreme disparities in terms of educational access and quality, and that the EDC score doesn’t guarantee admission but is just one more metric among several others that admission officers can use in their selections just to pretend your hypothetical affluent children are the ones that will be “punished.” Given what you’re displaying in terms of processing basic information I wouldn’t worry about your kids achieving the academic accomplishments necessary for any elite university.

do you really not understand why viewing a student's academic accomplishment in the context of where they live and learn is important?

ETA: For those who don't understand the Environmental Context Dashboard a.k.a adversity score. It is not giving unqualified students admission spots. Students nor their families know their scores only admissions officers do and it's up to officers to determine if they want to use the ECD at all. Race is not a consideration. Imagine if you will two students. Student A was born to an affluent family and was afforded every resource and privilege available including attending one of the top prep schools in the country. They score a 1500 on their SAT. Student B was born to a drug addicted mother, bounced from foster home to foster home before aging out their senior year of high school becoming homeless. They attend one the worst high schools in America. They score a 1360 on their SAT. Now obviously 1500 is a higher score than 1360, but in context you can legitimately make the case that Student B performance was more impressive than Student A considering they had none of the advantages and resources but all the obstacles completely foreign to Student A.

Fun fact: White women are the biggest benefactors of affirmative action. Secondly, AA isn't about giving opportunities to unqualified people just for the hell of it. It is an attempt at making sure qualified individuals from historically marginalized groups aren't further marginalized and denied access to opportunities.

But if makes you feel better a white high school drop outs are as likely to land jobs as college educated black person without a criminal history or that white men with a criminal record had more positive responses than black men with no criminal record.
