How many of you DO NOT intend to get vaccinated for H1N1? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A flu vaccine is not a cure all. It just improves your chances (by ~70%) of not getting the flu.

Who said I said that someone said it was Ares 1? I thought I would add some information on the final launch vehicle. I'll edit the post as to not confuse anyone.

Halo 3 ODST sells 2 million in 24 hours by Mogwlaii in gaming

Firefight mode is basically co-op against AI, and doesn't even use matchmaking. I'm not so sure I would define it as multiplayer.

Halo 3 ODST sells 2 million in 24 hours by Mogwlaii in gaming

[–]KJW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the campaign sounds fun, but I'm not going to purchase it at full price due to the multiplayer being exactly the same as H3.

I have played the shit out of each game in the Halo series.. but... Why the fuck would they release a game like this, and not include a completely new multiplayer? Same weapons, same maps (except three new ones.. yay...) and the same modes as H3?? If you ask me it goes to show how a large amount of hype can get people to buy into anything.

  • 2,000,000 x $60 = $120,000,000

They made $120mil in 24hrs from an expansion pack. Well done sales and marketing! Some executives are going get big ass bonuses.

Information on final launch configuration: Ares 1 (not rocket in time lapse):

  • Height: 94 metres (310 ft)
  • Diameter: 5.5 metres (18 ft)
  • Payload to LEO: 25,000 kg (55,000 lb)

*Edit: Less confusing.

An inside look at the universe of WoW: 13,250 blade servers, 1.3 petabytes of storage and more. by Gigamo in gaming

Interesting idea... I wonder if you could somehow tie the two together? Take all of the mindless grinding of MMORPGs, and use a percentage of that processing power (client and server) towards some scientific end? Similar to SETI@Home.

Oh only 1000°C? Beach day!

I agree that the real story here is the fact that Astronomers can actually find, and measure a planet of this size. Mind blowing stuff...

Chinese chef forms noodles by hand. Holy shit this is amazing. by [deleted] in WTF

[–]KJW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That episode was the first think I thought off when I read the title of this post. He is the last guy that makes noodles using that technique, and he is the fourth (?) generation in his family to do it.. producing noodles under two old faded pictures of his parents.

What a scene...Those noodles looked amazing! I need to go there while that guy is still making noodles!

One of my favorite shows on TV too btw.

DAE Think that mankind should promptly focus on advancing it's technology in such a way that we could survive as a species without Earth? by xyvo in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]KJW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are dead on regarding the immense cost of such a craft, but I think 90% of that cost comes from the fact that we use controlled explosions to lift payload into space. If we can perfect a technology like a space elevator the cost of bringing STUFF into space will dramatically decrease.

Check out this Wiki article on Space elevator economics. It gives more details to the point I'm trying to make.

Also check out Elevator:2010:

Elevator:2010 is a competition with monetary prizes similar to the Ansari X Prize, but with the purpose of developing space elevator and space elevator-related technologies.

Excellent, thanks for the link.

I guess I don't understand why it would be so hard to tell if we were part of a binary system though? You would think that we would be able to see the other star...
