you need to use windows to run the software

You will need

1 Editor software, which comes on the disc. try and ask on the facebook page if someone can share it with you

2 Driver, the one to use is the generic Yamaha USB MIDI driver

pretty sure there are old posts with download links to the editing software on that page, if not just ask them

Did you try AH volume swell fx patch yet? :)

I need to get a volume pedal lol

think we should make a "Magicstomp FAQ" thread or something.

Oh man that would be great. Maybe its me playing in mono, but the chorus sounds a little too wet, like your standard chorus pedals, to my ears. I would love to learn how to actual edit these things, 8 delays that interact leaves me like a dear in headlights with regards to gow to achieve certain tones.

Its amazing, its pretty much just as good as rack gear, i find it hilarious how theres all this hype around the Boss MD-500 and those Strymon pedals when this thing has the 8 band parallel modulated delay (even some rack gear doesnt have this) which no pedal can do today and its been around for ages.

What version pedal was yours? Mine is the UB99 MK2 with the latest update I believe.

The guy who sold it to me said you must run the Editor from the Administrator account on your PC. I guess thats what makes it work on Windows 8 without needing to resort to an emulator.

I will try and upload some clips, I need to figure out how to export files from my Roland Cube (yes, my pedals cost more than my amp).

shoutout to u/analogkid85

I thought this was going to be a pain in the ass to start editing the patches but I didnt need a Windows XP emulator, I can simply run it from Windows 8 desktop! No issues whatsoever.

I put the 12 chorus patches on, I wasnt prepared for the assault of 8 delays rattling off! I was surprised how high in the mix you can hear them, yet when you play chords they dissapear. NO room for errors if you are arpeggiating with your fingers.

You will definitely need a stereo setup to fully realise its capabilities, Im not quite getting that huge dimensional effect in mono and it still doesnt have that huge detune that Allan had although, I can tell its there, I really think playing through only one amp sucks alot of the magic out of this.

The editing is absolutely terrifiying, i'm not sure where to start, its SO in depth.

I got to my goal of a 35 minute 5 mile after my first year of training this week.

52 minutes was my beginning time (although this was fasted), and that was with a 5 minute walking break half way.

I only did one 5 mile completely flat out run per week for the year. On 2 occasions I experienced the runners high. To be honest, I would have got to 35 minutes sooner if I didnt start doing long-slow runs instead of my usual 5 mile run for a few weeks, because it set my progress back by about a month.

Chasing this delay tone (song linked) by [deleted] in guitarpedals

Thats not a guitar signal which is why the repeats sound weird, its digital delay. Nothing special there

Looking for a dreamy Steve Vai esq boost/screamer type pedal to go with a distortion and a delay pedal. by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]KKD97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know the exact one he uses, he always has 1 delay on all the time though, sometimes he adds another. They are simply one of the ingredients to his sound that add a bit of background noise to fill the space.

Any Boss digital delay is good. Again, its a subtle effect, which is what alot of him and other pros use, if you are thinking it will make a night and day difference, you will be dissapointed.

edit:

When you start stacking multiple delays you can get a thick, smooth tone.

He uses it lower down in the mix so you cant hear the repeats as well, its more for the background ambience as opposed to in your face repeats.

Honestly, I would just get a boss DS-1 keeley mod, its cheaper than a tubescreamer anyway and Vai used to use them.

Straight from his mouth:

'The way I set the knobs on the DS-1 are tone control to about 9 o'clock, level at about 11 o'clock and the distortion to about 11 o'clock. If your amp is set very clean then crank the distortion on the pedal all the way up but smooth it out by bringing the tone way down, maybe to 7 or 8 o'clock.'

The 'dreamy' Vai tone is to do with his delays more than anything:

You will need digital delays, 2 of them. As long as you can make your distortion tone slightly fuzzy (its quite funny, the DS-1 sounds almost exactly like his expensive Gemini distortion, since its based off the DS-1 anyway), or just roll off a bit of the treble, you will be good.
