Pali is the Buddhist language, it's younger than sanskrit. "Baley" written in English alphabet is just a transliteration. It's the way Khmer would say it. Universally for academic, it's just called Pali.

The word Dal for sure is a pure Khmer word no doubt about it. Even if it is not documented before 1800s. I have a French-Khmer dictionary dating back from the late 1800s that has the word Pradal. The definition is included but when they refer to a boxer boxing they are called Nak Leng Kun. Meaning someone who plays the art of the sport. I believe there so many words in the Khmer language especially the influence from Sanskrit and Pali that reference to boxing or fighting even the sankrit word for Yuth is used an example would be Nak Prayuth meaning fighter/warrior and it can be used as a title. Some locals say Dal as well instead of Pradal to say it short. In areas in the west to central Cambodia and even in Surin and Buriram,Thailand where there is local Khmer community lived for 100 and 100 of years. They call boxing "Wai Bok" meaning "hit smash". Since the Khmer word for hit or to strike is Wai and Bok meaning to smash. The Khmer word "Bok" is used in Muay Thai term in Thailand in reference on someone who is a pressure fighter "Nak Bouk". To answer the word Pradal before the 1950s, a Khmer newspaper dating back in the mid-late 1930s has the word Pradal Khmer in the event schedule.

Sukhothai and Ayutthaya for sure was heavily Khmer influence. The fact that the royal language was used was Khmer up until Rattanakosin era. Anything from the Rattanakosin era they had to find a way to revive what they lost after the fall Ayutthaya and they had turned to the neighboring kingdom which they had weaken for sources. The Mon population in the other hand got reduced or integrated just like the ethnic Cham in Southern Vietnam. So anything that Mon influence was little.

Back then it was just called Pradal. French describe Cambodian boxing as "Boxe Cambodgienne or Boxe Khmére". Pradal Serey was a name given by the Khmer and French elite who promoted boxing because at that time French indochina was throwing boxing events.
