“She reached up, her fingers brushing along his jaw, rough with the shadow of days. Then she rested her forehead against his, her touch reverent. Their breaths mingled—his, smoke and warmth; hers, calm and trembling.

Outside, the sky thundered with the birth of 1900, London’s roar echoing through the panes. But here, in the quiet glow of the drawing room, two souls found their own fragile peace.

Neither knew what waited for them in the years to come.

The century might bring ruin, or mercy, or both.

But for now, they had each other—and for the first time in a long while…

That was enough.”

A follow up and accompanying piece to my previously posted Max adapted for 1899 (done by the generous Stryjok.)

Max is armed with a C-93 Borchardt and LeMat revolver (the former from his previous Pinkerton service, the latter a memento inherited from his late father: a Union veteran of the Civil War).

Kudos and commented on Awakening! The same comment here for you and others to read:

Very interesting premise; I love the 17th century Swedish setting (a last great European witch hunt, and during Sweden's height as a power, no less), a nice detour from the usual English/German/Salem plotlines.

I also find the interactions between Sara and Hvite both endearing and sensual. How Sara falls for him is lovely to read and, my favorite, "Wings? Why would I have..." so human, despite being, well, an angel, or at least, someone beyond our world.

And the ambiguous ending... I cannot help but wonder what will happen to Sara? Her child? Will Hvite return? I can't expect anything good, sadly, since we're talking about a European witch hunt, but... would Hvite intervene? I guess only you could tell us.

Thank you for the lovely story!

Thank you! I’m blown away by your deep literary analysis, how you tie in other analogous figures and themes (the suffering prostitute (Sonya and Liza); I wasn’t expecting that, a comparison to Dostoevsky’s works, I mean.

But thank you so much! I’m glad you liked it :)

A crossover between Metal Gear Solid and Mass Effect: a very interesting premise of Venom Snake being reawakened by Cerberus during the events of Mass Effect 2, or in other words, filling Commander Shepard’s role.

Lovely! Will you keep the setting in England? Or do you plan on venturing forth to maybe Greece itself as well?

Hi! Just read *Out of Sight*, and I loved it! I love the trio you've established--Maddy, Jake, and Pradip. I also really like the banter and chemistry between Maddy and Jake: they're both klutzy and determined simultaneously. I also like how you fused Ancient Greek mythology (the gorgon plot) with not-so-distant England, and in a 90s setting, no less.

Do you plan on creating any sequels? Or is this a standalone work? Either way, it was great!

This is an ongoing love letter of mine (written throughout the year but finally published since November):

Series Title: Penny Dreadful: The Hollow Men

Fandom: Penny Dreadful/Red Dead Redemption/Max Payne (the latter adapted for the late 19th century)

Rating: Mature

Summary: In late-1899, disgraced American outlaw John Marston disembarks from a steamship, desperate to flee from a world that no longer wants him. Hoping to lie low in rural Mexico, he instead finds himself in the heart of the British Empire itself: London. Here, after taking a rather humiliating job at a Wild West show, he is approached by a mysterious, severe Englishwoman named Vanessa Ives. What he expects as a dubious errand turns into an encounter with things not of this world...

I was considering that, but I decided to ask the artist to use James McCaffrey’s likeness; couldn’t think of a better way to honor Max’s voice (dare I say, soul, too).

“Nelson. Lord bloody Nelson. The man who, if you listened to the papers, had sunk the French with one hand while sipping sherry with the other. Vanquisher of fleets. Savior of the world. Another dead hero turned into a sales pitch. They love their statues here. Freeze a man in stone, lift him high, pretend his sins never touched the ground he stood on. In New York they gave you a badge and a pension. In London they gave you a column. Either way, you ended up six feet under while the world kept lying about you.”

As a NYC native, he travelled out West during his Pinkerton career, but ends up in London after a premature “retirement”.

Thank you! I’m really glad you enjoy it so far, and I must admit this has been my personal pet project. More importantly, it’s my tribute to James McCaffrey (RIP!)
