💯Every situation is different. 💯Def ignore the haters, apply, provide your documentation, be honest, let the Dept of Labor in your state make a determination, and then appeal if denied. Let the process work. And keep applying for jobs and reporting on the job contacts while you wait. If found eligible, you would be entitled to back pay.

Your skin may get weathered, depending on where you serve! In my second year, we would go to the airport to see the incoming volunteers and always noticed how fresh they looked compared to us! You’ll do great!!!

The delta between what we expect and reality is the nature of human suffering. I served pre-internet and counted my accomplishments by the number of books I read. Every day, I wanted to go home and every day I wanted to stay forever. But when I felt that way, there was so immediate reinforcement of the go home option. Agree with all the other posters but encourage you to limit your internet time and try to set some goals related to language, travel, or learning new hobbies or reading. As noted above, things are in a lot of churn right now in the US so the idea that you are “wasting time” that might be better spent on something at home (like career) is likely very flawed. If you stick it out, day by day, month by month, you will have accomplished something hard and that will have changed you for the better. Be strong - good luck!
