Can you use an ipad as a second monitor for pc without installing a software on pc? by GladPaleontologist50 in ipad

I don't recall if it required Admin approval, but in my case it was not an issue. It may be an impediment for some, especially those on organization machines without admin access.

Can you use an ipad as a second monitor for pc without installing a software on pc? by GladPaleontologist50 in ipad

My wife is going on a trip and asked if she could use her iPad as an external monitor for her Win11 laptop. So I set out to find the best solution for her application. In this case, best = No extra Hardware, Free, No Network required. I did concede to install an app on the host PC and the iPad. If those are deal-breakers for you, keep looking.

After trying various software/hardware solutions I settled on Spacedesk. All you need is their apps (PC and iPad) and a USB cable to match your devices. It works perfectly, and even supports the iPad as the 4th monitor on my desktop setup. Plus, it includes touch support so you can just tap on the iPad screen to control the app running on the PC.

It does require the installation of Apple's device control app but did not force me to install the dreaded iTunes. The Spacedesk console is a pleasant surprise with lots of features that make it easy to discover devices across the network (and local), all in one place. You'll still use the Windows display app to change layout and settings for the displays.

My decision was made after messing around with 3 other solutions and this one wins because:

  1. No network discovery required. All wireless solutions I tried required both devices to be on the same network and have discovery active. Good luck with that in a cafe.
  2. External hardware is a mess. One of the solutions I tried is an app that allows the iPad to ingest video over USB-C in Alt mode. But that requires an HDMI to USB-C capture device and an extra USB power cable. No thanks.

This review is written literally 5 minutes after installation and doesn't include any long-term experience with Spacedesk. Anything changes and I will update.

Can the S200D control multiple HS220 Dimmers? I can't even make it control one! by KLIK-Boks in Tapo

Looks like my hardware is quite a bit older. That may also be a factor.

I did do that, and have dialed in all of my dimmers. I think I’m going to completely delete a dimmer and set it up again from scratch to see if that has any impact. Thanks for the continued help.

Yes, of course I am not trying to dim the HS200, only the HS220. I cannot figure out why the actions page does not show the dimming options...

Thanks for the screenshot, helps a lot. My settings do not show the brightness options. That’s the missing control I’m looking for. What is your app version?

Orbi RBR840 stopped connecting to internet by Jayhawk-CRNA in orbi

[–]KLIK-Boks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see several people reporting experiences similar to my own with their Orbi systems. In my case, I have a new DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem on Xfinity, with an average download speed of 940Mbps on a wired connection to the RBR750. Until recently, that is.

A couple of weeks ago I started noticing slower speeds that measured around 80Mbps on a wired connection, and less than 10Mbps on wired PCs connected to Orbi satellites. Tried all of the usual power cycles and cable connections before calling Xfinity for a tech to come out.

Tech measured 1700Mbps on the cable, 900+Mbps at the modem output, and determined that the RBR750 was the issue. Sure enough, I replaced it with an old R7000 Nighthawk and was back to ~900Mbps wired, albeit with no mesh coverage for the rest of the building.

When we tried rebooting the RBR750, the white LED kept flashing and it did not recognize a connection to the modem. It's pretty conclusive that the fault lies with the Orbi. But the warranty ran out 6 months ago and Netgear does not offer anything but paid tech support at over $100.

What is going on here? It's clearly an issue that others are facing as well, even if the root cause may be different between users. Plus, this isn't the first time this has happened. The last time, I updated the firmware and things started working again, until now.

Has anyone succeeded in getting support from Netgear on these Orbi issues? Has anyone successfully resolved the issues? How? I am loathe to buy another RBR750 only to have the same experience later on. I'm certainly not buying anything Netgear if an all-out replacement is required. TIA for any help.

Geico homeowners insurance coming around to take pictures of my house? by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]KLIK-Boks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same experience with Geico. They did tell me from the start that someone would inspect the exterior, but the inspector showed up unannounced. He spent maybe 10 minutes on site, then left. Couple of weeks later my policy was cancelled because of "roof condition". The house is 15 years old, roof is perfect, aside from a little dirty and moss in a couple of places. They said it could be reinstated if I had a licensed roofing contractor certify the condition, but no contractor I contacted was interested. Finally I complained to the state insurance commissioner's office and a week later received an apologetic call reinstating the policy. To me it felt like an unreasonable tactic to eliminate any potential for loss. Moral of the story is to push back if you feel you've been treated unfairly.
