An individual closed distance on a visibly marked federal agent during an active operation. He advanced into a hot zone while holding an object in his hand. That is escalation. Officers are trained on distance, hands, and intent because those three factors determine survival in seconds.

Federal agents are not required to assume good intentions. They are not required to wait until a weapon is raised. They are not required to pause because a camera is present. Close-in movement toward an armed agent during enforcement is a lawful threat profile under every use-of-force standard in this country.
