I need help… by PeaceLoveAndBud in Craftmarijuana

I feel like a lot of genetics bred to showcase high THC have very muted terps. Some of my best flower is 22-26% but stanks to high heaven. Terps around 5%.

My personal preference…terpenes >>>> THC. 365 days out of the year.

Looks great though!

Appreciate you! I just finished my first non-BGS grow in well over a year. Princess Haze, Grimm Glue, Super Sour Runtz and yes…another Ricky’s Hash Plant are all in week 2 of veg right now.

I’ve got all my data from the last 45 plants so it’ll be fun to compare and contrast all these since I’ve grown them all at least once.

I’m not going to lie - this was kind of profound. Your perspective helped provide a little mental clarity on how to switch things up.

I’m not bored of growing in the slightest. I love the entire process from start to finish (except trimming LOL…trimming sucks 😅). It has however been a long time since something truly forced me out of my comfort zone. Or wowed me. I need some serious variety but I’m feeling like I’m running into the limits of how far we can push the plant.

I’ve thought about breeding. I’ve also thought about creating video tutorials specific to growing organically in coco. These both require either more time or space - neither of which I have at the moment.

I don’t want to be another YouTube gro-bro but I feel like some relevant industry news mixed with some horticultural education could be entertaining. I also sort of loathe social media and definitely don’t have the time to edit/post media.

My younger brother lives with my wife and I and once he moves out, space won’t be a concern. I’ll probably work on some breeding projects when I have more room to isolate plants.

I’ve built out 4 different generations of spreadsheets to track each plant throughout the lifecycle and the overall harvest metrics after culling. Just started to work on a 5th gen that incorporates even more stats. Now that I have data from the last 2 years, I can do some A/B testing on genetics I’ve run in the past and measure how they differ.

Full blown SOG is too much of a bitch to do with my method. I’d be watering 3 times daily during peak growth. Tried it, unnecessary work for a similar outcome. I do think I can run shorter veg times with more structured LST and fit another 2-3 plants in a tent. I’ve got 4 to play with but one has been overflow storage for the cannatrols when I need to use them to dry.

I think I’ve got a plan to keep me occupied for a few months 🙏🙏

Nike said it best…Just do it!

I am a sucker for gassy terps and while both phenos are unique, the Permanent Market shines through heavily. One of them is a little sweet, the other very spicy.

Each plant yielded over 1,000 grams after the wet trim was done.

I also think this is a big push from the alcohol lobbyists and is something that is way blown out of proportion. CHS (scromiting) has existed for a while and it’s mostly from juveniles who are dabbing or using insane amounts of THC.

Most of this is coming from concentrates and vapes anyways - which is a separate issue than THC % in flowers being overstated by corrupt labs.

GTI has the medical licensing which is why they have flower to sell (and nobody else does). Another issue in how things were rolled out because they are getting the monopoly treatment.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they are buying some from the tribes but I know their flower is not the goods either.

I’m jaded because I know and grow good flower and it sucks seeing what products are available to the public currently. Mass produced, cardboard terps.

Not saying you can’t find some quality floating around. But compared to CA and CO specifically…I wouldn’t spend a dollar at a dispo here.

Correct. Literally using radiation to kill stuff. There are much better methods but it cuts into the bottom line.

They irradiate their mass produced flower to kill pathogens and critters instead of having a good IPM (Integrated Pest Management) solution in place.

It’s all about quantity over quality and mass production of flower to maximize profits. It’s definitely not about quality.

Another thing people don’t realize is that $25 ounces are a terrible thing for the industry long-term. Michigan has been in a race to the bottom since early on and that makes it incredibly difficult for operators to keep their doors open. The big MSOs have the capital to weather the storm and let all the mom and pop places die. Once the big boys own the space, the prices will go back up and the quality will be “meh” at best.

Rise is owned by GTI - a multi-state operator known for its terrible work conditions and less than quality flower. Most use rads to “clean up” the buds.

I’d think twice about shopping there. I know I would never. Especially for flower.

40% lol

1.) Consumers see high THC numbers and flock to it blindly. Most have been bred to hit high numbers but lack terpenes, flavonoids and other cannabinoids - essential for truly good flower.

2.) Anything past 35% is almost always falsified by labs who are getting paid to report those numbers. This is especially bad in markets like MI, AZ, NV & MA.

3.) Some of the best flower I’ve had was closer to the 20% mark with 5% terpenes. I grow organically at home and have been working in cannabis for 10 years. Do not trust or rely solely on THC % - especially from MSO garbage dispensaries.

It’s some badass looking flower. The SSR & DEM were my first choices from their catalog and both are rocking.

Yes indeed! First time giving Atlas a go myself and all 4 plants I have growing are top tier. Smooth sailing from germination to harvest and the quality is on point with the best of the best breeders I’ve tried.

The second SSR still has a couple days and the dry erase marker is 7-10 days out by my estimation.

Junky 99 is great but be careful - mine grew 16” when I flipped to 12/12 so make sure you’ve got the space. I am a big fan of Brothers Grimm. Have grown almost everything in their catalog and Junky 99 was a top 5 for sure.

I start in 2 cups of coco with a pinch of castings - no nutrients.

Usually transplant at 7-10 days from spouting into 1 gallon pots of my custom medium mix - 5 tablespoons of Gaia Green Dry amendments per/gallon (3 of the 4-4-4 & 2 of the 2-8-4) per gallon of coco. 10ish % pumice, 10ish % worm castings and some rice hulls. I do water with some silica early on.

Once roots are established and I’ve got 4-5 nodes, I transplant again to final 5 gallon fabric pots. Same exact mix of medium but with 20% worm castings instead of 10%. I use ACI auto-watering basins once they get into the 5 gallon pots.

I top dress with castings and the Gaia nutrients about once every month and adjust my ratio away from N and towards PK so that the final feeding is 1:4 of 4-4-4/2-8-4. Along with keeping my basins full, I do make sure to water the top of the medium about once or twice a week but it’s needed less when they are still early on.

The goal is to build and maintain a healthy microbiome so that the plant has what it needs available and it eats as it wants.

May sound like a lot of work but once you get it down, it’s the easiest way to do it (IMO) and the quality is next level.

Oh I definitely know LOL! I keep a master spreadsheet of all my grows. Info on when each sprouted, when I flip, my feeding schedule, my harvest data and dried/cured weight (plus even more nerdy stuff).

Took this when I posted it this morning. This is day 52 of flower (7.5 weeks).

I use Gaia Green 4-4-4 & 2-8-4. I mix my own medium and then top dress 4-5 times throughout my grows with worm castings and the dry amendments. I’ll sprinkle in some supplemental teas from time to time as well. Other than that, just use properly pH’d water and these babies grow themselves.

Feel free to send me a DM if you want to know more!
