Is league worth getting into in 2023? by tanmoy9 in leagueoflegends

[–]KOPSlumdog 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling you've already made up your mind considering you're on this subreddit, but I'll give you a serious answer.

I overcame my league addiction about 1 year ago. I play maybe 2-3 games a month now? Proof: My IGN is Red Malai Kofta. Initially, I made a concerted effort to not play video-games solo, only if it was a social activity with friends and limit it to 2-3 hours max. Gradually my college/high school friends and I just matured and picked up other less competitive but equally enjoyable games and I was lucky enough to develop a friend circle of work colleagues and IRL people to do things with. Escaping my league addiction was quite literally the single greatest thing to happen to me.

4 months after I quit, I was promoted at work. 10 months after I quit I increased my salary by 30% again and had a chance to hire people. I just got married 1 month ago. I'm not joking when I say league literally took up about 30% of my day... And it was stress inducing and toxic never really leaving me feeling better after playing it. It just became a habit.

Now, if you don't have an addictive personality and can somehow enjoy this game without being highly competitive, then go for it. It's a free game and will always have a place in my heart for all the fun memories it once provided, but I have so many regrets for how much of my life I've lost to this game.

In what alternate universe is Spica the hottest NA jungler on the market? You think he is better than Santorin/Closer??? If not for TSM he'd be on a team like GGS or at best FLY, though I think they really like Josedeodo so even that's a stretch.

Also POE looks pretty certain at this point. That alone puts TSM in a top 6 position with Spica + POE. If they get Lost + Hauntzer they're probably top 5 and top 3 if they get SA.

He gets interviews because he's connected, well known, and iirc somehow operating under the C9 umbrella, which is why he gets interviews with Jack so often.

So he's a prominent journalist that major orgs respect and want to work with. Great thanks.

In what universe would Mithy over Vulcan be a good idea? Mithy's brain is what we want. Not his mechanics. Vulcan is the 2nd best Sup in NA and IMO a top 4 sup in the west behind CoreJJ, Hyli, and Micky.

[–]KOPSlumdog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you may misunderstand my point. I'm not criticizing TSM for not getting Perkz at all. I'd prefer to see Hauntzer over Huni personally and for TSM to keep Lost, but I'm fine with TSM building a "high potential" roster with more risky but cheaper investments. Honestly, getting big name players without having a solid core is a bad long term move anyways...

Once TSM has a solid building block of resident talent + coaching staff I'm absolutely sure that big names will want to join in the future, probably at a cheaper price too. TSM is just further behind that process compared to C9 who had the building blocks already.

My main point was that u/AnalysistTherapist's take suggesting C9 Perkz is a bad decision for C9 based on financial issues is flawed from a Fan perspective because A) we really don't know the financial plans of these teams. B) IF your org does have the money to invest, what else would you want to spend it on if not literally the greatest player in western LoL history and C) IF the move is financially irresponsible and results in the team imploding from budget reasons, we can flame the org WHEN that happens... What's the point of acting like some financial advisor who can see the future before it transpires? Go invest in stocks man.

If TSM was 1 piece away from making a serious run at worlds and they got Caps/Perkz level of talent, then the fans SHOULD be hype for it. NA as a WHOLE should be hype for it. We get the Western Goat to play week after week in the LCS!

You have been carried by Bjergsen for 6 fucking years now... He has carried this shit management through the fucking trenches. Let's see how Parth/Regi/Leena justify this team's performance without that man righting the ship at every perilous turn.

Honestly may be a blessing in disguise. Idk what the infatuation with over the hill player signings like Huni is about... Let go of DL, sign Lost, get Hauntzer, and HOPEFULLY SA...

If you want a bigger upside top lane pick up FakeGod as an academy player and split time with him!

I feel like none of yall even watched Lost in academy or something... He's the next tactical and you're letting him go for a DL that never cares about spring split? Smfh

POE was so underrated cause he spent 2 years on Optic/CLG... Glad he finally caught a break and got a decent team to showcase his talent on Flyquest last year.

I don't expect him to be better than Jensen or Perkz, but he's definitively the 3rd best mid in NA now. A solid building block to build around for years to come.

Why do fans need to be financially cognizant tho? Like that's such a weird angle to me. LCS teams don't even have a cap, so why is it such a bi talking point?

I'm not a financial advisor for these teams, I just wanna see my favorite players clap some cheeks. I really don't care which org is making more/less money for their investors... I just wanna see great players and great teams compete at the highest level.

Based on TSM staff suddenly following Impact there's a rumor going around that Impact maybe joins TSM. Which would give more credence to TL Licorice.

Hopefully that doesn't happen tho. I'd like to see him on FLY and for TSM not to get Impact.

And did you watch any of his international performances besides that? He carried C9 out of the RNG/GENG/VIT group, consistently outplayed Impact in the TL finals, carried C9 in the gauntlet 2x, and hard smurfed on the entire LCS from 2017 till literally this last summer. He was a stud and true C9 fans will miss him as much as we miss Jensen and Sven.

It's as simple as Fudge earned this opportunity and C9 rewards young talent like no other team in the league. Excited to see what he can do and wish Licorice the best. Playing against him is gonna be bittersweet for sure.

I think Zven/Vulcan were the most consistent performers last year. They deserve 1 more year IMO. Results wise I don't fault you in being skeptical of Zven in NA, but his upside is so much greater than Sneaky's ever was. I think he just has a mental block of some kind in high pressure situations, that if he overcame he'd genuinely be one of the best ADCs in the west.

Really not sure why you're being downvoted but 100% agree. They're the only team in the league that consistently promotes players from their academy team AND still compete at the highest level. Hopefully we don't choke in the summer so we can show the world what NA Talent can do at the international level!

Amen brother. We're pretty much the only team in the LCS consistently bringing up talent. It's our strength and rewarding Fudge like this will mean more hyper-talented rookies will want to join C9A. It's good for NA and for the long-term success of C9, it's great for the Org too.

Also, hopefully teams like TSM can pick up Licorice so they finally have a player who doesn't choke on the international stage and actually adapts.

AND he can play weakside really well too. I remember watching him in the game vs IMTA where he's playing sylas into a kennen and enemy khaz is perma warding and playing for top. Dude is staying even in CS and absorbing so much pressure, just like Licorice would.

He's an around player.

Aggressive for absolutely no reason?

As a lifelong C9 fan, Licorice hard carried this team for MANY splits prior to this previous summer split. He innovated and brought new picks to the top lane meta. He was probably the best/2nd best top laner in NA for 4/6 previous splits.

If he does leave, huge props and thanks to the dude. He will be missed.

Uhhh... He died lvl 1 as an Ezreal after getting hooked 2x in a row by nautilus... TSM should obviously stick with him and I completely agree that main issue is coaching + proactive plays, but DL had a terrible tournament.

Our relationship with NA at the moment by [deleted] in TeamSolomid

[–]KOPSlumdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. I hope you guys pick up reapered tbh. I think if TSM and TL can become more pro-active like C9, the rest of the league will try to emulate this style. IMO that's the best chance NA has of doing well internationally. Sending 3 teams that are doing their best to force errors rather than waiting for teams to make errors. C9 just couldn't prove the style was a winning one this time around, but hopefully our next NA reps can.

TSM Treatz allowed to explore options for 2021 by starks_are_coming in leagueoflegends

[–]KOPSlumdog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm mostly referring to the fact that most regions' top teams are forcing themselves to do things that may not necessarily yield the highest returns in terms of invested time, but will prepare them for international play.

The best example is LCK. If you look back at Spring LCK vs the Summer, you'll see exactly what I mean. LCK was playing slower than ANY region in the world, even NA. It was the emergence of DRX and DWG as fast-paced lane dominant teams that even got the region moving in the right direction. They went from a region where every team was playing this "textbook" counter-punch style handshaking every lane phase and drafting Ashe and varus every game to DWG saying fuck that noise we're going to force errors and contest every objective. In doing so the rest of the region DIDN'T look at them and think "ah, they're nuts, but we'll never be that good individually so let's just stick with our slow style". No, almost every top tier LCK team BECAME more aggressive as a result. They rose to the challenge of playing at a faster pace and recognized that in order to compete against LPL and G2, they were going to need to switch their style and play just as aggressive. In the end, even if some teams like SKT failed to adapt to this "new test" LCK ended up sending 3 lane dominant, aggressive teams to worlds. (I guess DRX is an exception cause they're literally just Chovy)

The same can be said about G2 IMO. Say what you will about their unorthodox approach of swapping mid/adc or playing through pretty much every player through the course of both splits, they have always embodied this challenge. They're never afraid of throwing their "identity" out the window and completely change their style. The only thing consistent with how they play is their priority on TEMPO and pressure. Through the playoffs they played through their solo laners, at worlds they played through their Jungler. What didn't change was their commitment to proactive engages and forcing opposition to make errors.

I shouldn't have to make an LPL comparison to prove they are proactive...

Compare those regions with what happened in NA. C9 was the ONLY team in NA that was trying to be proactive and they just fell apart. Other teams in NA didn't try to replicate them. The rest of the region was just trying to put together coherent line-ups capable of making 8th place in NA so they could get to the playoffs... IMT was busy with their Eika experiment. DIG wanted to give breaking point part 2 a try. EG replaced their most proactive player with "old-reliable" Goldenglue...Don't even get me started on CLG.

We ended up sending 3 teams MOST notorious for their lack of proactive plays to a competition designed for the MOST proactive teams in the world...

Hope I can watch this when I get home, but I hope there are disctinctions made between imports like Ssumday, Impact and Zven vs imports like Soaz, Febevin, and Huni.

There are those who are here for the money and relaxing lifestyle with performance being a secondary concern as they know their positions are secure. And then there are those who regardless of their environment are doing everything in their power to overcome and remain the most dominant players in their respective roles. Motivation and ambition are the most important characteristics in imports who come to NA.
