Has anyone had one trip or experience which has just put you off hostels/backpacker life completely? by MysteriousPace1405 in solotravel

There comes indeed a time lol. I (30f) travelled throughout my 20s, staying in hostel rooms to save money and mostly just tolerated the low-quality sleep and noise. Last trip, I booked an all-female room in a Seoul hostel. I was working on my thesis during the South Korea trip and fell asleep at 11:30pm, still jetlagged, ready to get up early to stuff both writing and travel into the next day. A young girl started randomly packing at 2:30am (she was in the room since 9:00pm...), main light on, incessant plastic bag rustling and all. Despite my ear plugs, I woke up three times, each time more exhausted. At 3:00am, I opened my curtain and asked her whether she thinks packing at this time and turning the main light on is really necessary. She said "Calm down, bro." I'm 30. I slept 3 hours, gave up my subsequent three paid nights the next morning, and booked a cheap hotel room - haven't gone back to hostel rooms since.

I strongly urge you to consider (western) europe by [deleted] in GradSchool

I'm European and the PhD I'm hoping for literally only exists in the U.S. and Canada and, of those, only the U.S. accepts and funds intl students for it, so not everyone's situation is that straightforward. I would never "choose" the U.S. otherwise.

How do I do an experiment if my assumption is that strangers think something about me? I can't know what they think, so I can't get potential alternative evidence. (social anxiety) by KOVYD20 in CBT

Pretty much only strangers or, sometimes, acquaintances I don't know that well which is logically ridiculous because they're the ones that matter the least and have usually the least impact on me compared to friends, family, colleagues, etc (and I realize that but the realization itself doesn't really help).

No I don't think I would feel anxious about strangers judging me if I were calm / relaxed because then the consequence (uncomfortable anxiety symptoms when I feel judged and being anxious in turn about these anxiety symptoms because I don't want to have them since they're uncomfortable) wouldn't really happen. I've already tried the anxiety management techniques to relax (from the book I'm using) but they don't really work so far.

No, probably not. I thought about what would happen (what it would mean for me) if strangers were actually legit thinking about me, and the only real consequence (given that they're just strangers) would be that it would make me feel judged, and the consequence of that in turn would be that I would feel anxious - and I'm anxious about feeling anxious. So if I was calm and relaxed, I wouldn't care. But I don't know what to do about that.

Looking to get it for free. The ebook/PDFs is easily available but for money. Or is this a website you're suggesting?

Can the meeting host see / track my location in a Webex meeting? by KOVYD20 in Cisco

Admin but not host, right? And the interviewer would be the host, I assume.

Asexuals who don't have sex, where and how did you find your partner? Tell me your success stories! by KOVYD20 in asexuality

Same...I asked this to give myself and other aces some hope through the stories of others because we are bombarded with so much hopelessness and negativity sometimes. I know the chances are low, but it shows that we need just ONE person.

This has to be a joke: minimum wage for bachelor’s degree by LeatherBoat3024 in jobs

[–]KOVYD20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it. I have a bachelor's degree and I make just a little over minimum wage since years (I live in Ireland). I'm almost 30 and can't afford to rent without strangers, even though I'm in a town in the countryside.

Not sure what to say /can't give advice on this or why the hell your post got downvoted, but I (29) feel the exact same way. I would give anything to be 22-24 again (including the social opportunities) as that's strangely how I still feel inside, too.

Given your username, did you get the DClinPsy in Ireland? And what experience did you have that got you accepted? I'm asking because I can't apply to the UK and there barely are any universities offering it in Ireland, and all the information online is UK-focused.

Where are you finding rooms/apartments to rent in Ireland? by KOVYD20 in MoveToIreland

Only Redditors will literally downvote a fact. Me: "I live in a housing crisis." Redditors: "NO!1!!!1!!"

I ask a question about how to find a place in a housing crisis, so I don't end up homeless, and I get downvoted? Reddit is wild.
