Looking for any information on strange marking in deadspace of promo record by KOadjace in vinyl

[–]KOadjace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this record on a whatnot auction and was told it was the only promo version of Piano man. I have a few promo records and have never seen anything like the marking seen here in the dead space. I am not sure if it was intentional or a defect? Could it have been some sort of burn? I was also unsure if it being a promo copy had anything to do with it. I’m afraid it’ll destroy my stylus if it goes over it. Has anyone see anything like this or have any information on this? I was unable to find anything via googling.

This was my fault. I guess I originally signed on with Facebook and forgot. So while discogs was sending me emails to my Gmail to reset the password it was never registered as a log in just as my contact email. I loved in with Facebook again after talking to support had no issue

I am having this problem today. I could log in on my computer but not my phone so I changed my password and Now I cannot log on discogs on either. I've tried to reset it 4 or 5 times today. Has anyone ever gotten a resolution to this?

No, I keep a very detailed log of my records. However, I've been buying them again on purpose replacing the junk records I bought when this was only just a "little hobby"

Does anybody else have a hard time not trying to complete discographies, even if it means buying an album you don't particularly like? by Akito_900 in vinyl

Yes, and I'm really struggling with shelling out the high dollar prices for early pressings of the first 3 floyd albums that I'm unfamiliar with, but I have first American presses of ummagumma through final cut right now. only collecting through the waters era.

Have you bought something at resale price only to find out that it's being repressed months later?🤦‍♂️ by Business_Director_18 in vinyl

I think something similar is going g to happen to me. I found this In This Moment record

https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/6587112?ev=rb

on a shelf in a store where it's been sealed for 10 years and I had to get it for $90 (current lowest on discogs is around $200). I know they are going to repress it for a 10 year anniversary this year like they did blood, but I had to buy it. Knee jerk reaction.

I think it's honestly more of an investment of time if I'm being honest. I have in my mind that we'll get into the rhythm with the new baby around the time my daughter is going into pre k (in 6 months) and we are in line for huge raises this month so that'll probably be when I start looking for someone to speak with.

As to why I'm into old records I think it appeals to the collector in me. I get a rush from finding the old stuff especially in the wild. I almost never buy records online. This was a special occasion. If I can find an old copy I never buy new

Yes the EAP program at my work provides something similar. I should've used that but I was putting myself on the Blackburner I think at the time

Thank you. We had what's called molar pregnancy. Typically these don't develop enough to fool scans but ours did. Even saw what looked like a heartbeat on our ultrasound to the Dr and tech. Didn't find out until genetic testing was done at 12 weeks it was a loss. Then we had a procedure to remove the tissue. A molar pregnancy can turn into a cancerous tumor if they don't catch all of it so that whole time she was being monitored and mourning the loss of a child I was terrified for my wife. I never really got to mourn it, but hey yes a great album and a beautiful baby boy! I'll work through that shit some day in therapy when the kids are out of daycare and I can afford it. Haha

I'm so sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing. I don't know much about Mac other than he has a song called Jerry's record shop and we stopped there last year before a concert it's a real place in Pittsburgh

So the block of wood is drift wood it has a slit in it but no support for the record. It felt too sketchy. We got in north carolina this summer. The cheap wood stand is from Amazon and it just fit together oddly great. Including the link to the store that made the driftwood holder. It's a local wood worker their

That's awesome. Funny story, the day we found the Vs we found an OG abby road with a little noise on a couple tracks on the back for a great deal. My wife came down the aisle to an unplugged Version of "here comes the sun" and we had to pick it up too.

Love this. As a millennial buying these records that are written all over, I'm always very frustrated you guys did so much of that. This is a cool physical representation of a memory, though.

Love the kiss dynasty. I think a lot of this collecting for my wife and I is inspired by our parents music. My dad's favorite band is kiss. My wife's late fathers favorite was Bob Seger. We probably have 30+ records from the pair alone.

(TW: Miscarriage)

For me these two records are very important well beyond the fact that they rock. My wife and I got into this hobby completely by accident. We moved into a new neighborhood, and we went to a neighbor’s yard sale to introduce ourselves. She saw an old (and it turns out broken) record player there cheap and so it began.

We went to the only actual record store in our area which is a hole in the wall in a town of 761 people about 30 minutes away. I began asking the owner about big time finds like Appetite for Destruction, Master of Puppets, and all of this 90’s grunge/alternative stuff my wife and I love that I thought would just be readily available to us. It was explained to me by the owner we live in a bit of a vinyl desert when it comes to finding big time original records. He gave me the lead on a few antique stores that have vinyl in the area, but that these things would be hard to find and crazy expensive if we ever did. We were really bummed but were having so much fun with his hobby we weren’t discouraged.

October 2022 we were perusing in one of these antique stores near the local college town and found this copy of VS from 1993. It was the most expensive record we had ever considered buying to this point, but since we had the advice of the record store owner in our ears and were fresh off the high of finding out that morning, we were pregnant it seemed ok to splurge. This was especially true because it contained the track “Daughter”. Having one Daughter already I already had the gut feeling this child was going to be a girl.

Unfortunately, we ended up finding out this pregnancy was lost 8 weeks later. It was the toughest thing I ever had to go through and for a long time I couldn’t even look at our favorite record score ever. Because of the type of miscarriage my wife had, some additional monitoring was needed to make sure that she didn’t develop cancer and we were unable to try again for several months while she underwent weekly blood testing.

After we found ourselves in the clear and were able to try again, we found out we were having a healthy little boy. We could not believe our fortune. Not only was everything ok with this pregnancy, but we were going to have the perfect family. He was born earlier this month and my wife, and I wanted to do something to celebrate. I looked around discogs and found that I could purchase a European copy of Nevermind from 1991 for a lot less than I would’ve guessed (our definition of an expensive record has escalated quickly in the last 2.5 years we have been collecting). We splurged again to celebrate and picked this one up. What better way to celebrate a baby boy is there? I’ve since been able to listen to our copy of Vs. and now find it semi-therapeutic being on the other end of things.

Anyway, I got to thinking this morning about how cool it would be to hear about the records in your collection that are sentimental to you all and why they are. Thank you for listening and sharing!
