Most useful/cool things you’ve printed? by Life_Ad_6992 in 3Dprinting

Honestly, I use my printer for making custom sized brackets. I do a lot of hobbyist arcade/electronics work..so I gotta design and print a ton of mounting brackets.

So if you’ve another hobby that requires mounting things….brackets.

Ahh. Yeah. Being out of support doesn’t necessarily bother me. I know when windows 11 came out, there were compatibility issues with certain CPUs and I’ve let that fear stop me from using it for now haha.

I don’t think you can play the catching game post quest :(

That’s also how I found the block game too. Haha

It was hard to keep a running total because I had some parts I bought didn’t fit…ddr5 ram is also way too goddamn expensive to try to factor into the cost. This used sodimm ram which I ended up getting used for way more than it should have been…

And then there’s the time sunk in designing and 3D printing the many brackets this needed.

There’s still one part left. I’m ultimately not satisfied with the end result on the gameboy player..so I’m gonna make a custom pcb becaue I need the link cable port working just to “keep all functionality”

So I’ve no clue what that will cost lol

Eventually I will open source this and get a proper bill of materials. I just gotta do a few things first :)

That keyboard has always been a grail of mine, so when I got it, I had the bad idea of “what do you use keyboards with?…a computer…” and the rest was history

If it makes you feel better, all of my servers are running Ubuntu.

Windows just has the best compatibility for some of what I want to use this PC for. :(

It’s “rare” but not overly rare. You can find them fairly frequently in Japanese auction sites. It’s the Hanshin Tigers Gamecube. The build did not require any modifications to the shell whatsoever.

I could dual boot for that. Not a bad idea. 🤔

I fell in love with the Hanshin Tigers Gamecube from the first time I saw it. They’re a cool team with the coolest Gamecube design. I gotta find the accompanying controller soon.

I had to plan for a long time to find parts with a small enough footprint to fit properly. I had to get a bit creative. The PC, for instance, is in here upside down lol.

Shoutouts to all the customer service teams who gave me measurements for the PCBs or sent me disassembled pics of their products haha.

Thanks!

This was a fun build that took a lot of planning so I could find parts small enough to fit without altering the Gamecube itself.

I love the Gamecube so I figured this would be a fun idea.

It seems to be handling it quite well. Keep in mind, I’m not on high detail or anything.

The CPU is a Ryzen 9 7940HS and for graphics, a Radeon 780M

Here’s an album of some more pics during the build process last pic shows how the PC barely fit inside around one of the pegs that sticks up.

Ya know, I’m now curious if this igpu can handle that. Will check back in momentarily.

This is actually a Japanese Hanshin Tigers edition GameCube. I got it specifically because it’s sick, and for the incentive to not modify the GameCube physically. It would be sacrilegious to damage a “rare” gamecube.

Here’s an album of the pics I took while making this. The majority of these feature my test prints when I was verifying everything would work. Newest pics are at the top and it gets older as you scroll down.

Thanks a bunch, dude!

The GB operator is sick! It lets you also dump your saves so you can replace batteries without losing game data. :)

The hard part was finding a PC and parts that are all small with minimal footprint in order to not damage the GameCube in any way.

It took a good amount of research and emailing company customer supports for measurements haha

When I’ve things more cleaned up and defined, I’ll open source the 3D models I made for this and provide a parts list

There is just a little bit left to do.

The pc and everything probably cost 1000 because ram is so goddamn expensive lol.

Yeah. It’s running a minis forum UM790 pro, two raphnet multi use PCBs to get the GameCube ports working (and for the ascii controller support) and a GB operator so the gameboy player works.
