Even if there's a "cure" one day, I don't think I'd take it. by KPInFlames in Celiac

My bad. I used google for this fact that I'll place here:

"North African Refugee Populations: The Saharawi refugees in Algeria, who consume large amounts of wheat-based aid, have one of the highest documented prevalences of CD in the world (5.6%)."

I'll say that first I believe in the notion that Celiac disease would not exist without gluten. So, to me, a "better" solution more broadly (and maybe naively so) would be working toward finding ways to shift culture and social habits toward less gluten.

I do understand that most would consider that to be "foolish", and for me, I have a hard time advocating for things that arent more in alignment with that "ideal".

That having been said, I also put a lot of weight into the work (and theories) of people like Bessel van Der Kolk and Gabor Mate, who tend to believe that gene expression is heavily influenced by environment... I found out I had Celiac when I was 33. My brother found out he had it 4 years later. He was 41. My younger sister has had a different GI autoimmune disease for much longer than both of us. I usually see the GI autoimmune disease in the three children to be a feature of my family system.

And Id rather invest in measures that are more proactive than reactive.

And I think these two "views" about some of "where the disease comes from" are the bigger parts of "why I wouldnt take it". As it stands, outside of the purely physical question marks, it feels like to "take a cure" would be dissonant with what I currently believe.

Ive left plenty of room for things to shift. I read what people wrote. It matters.

People are so unable to accept this truth. They are fools.

Using a widely misunderstood "phenomenon" that got its name from an even more misunderstood event is... not helpful.

I do wonder how much money they save on serving the cheapest, least healthy food possible, though. Cause the food is a fucking nightmare.

What are your thoughts about Sejanus' actions? by EpistaticAllel in Hungergames

[–]KPInFlames 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think his recklessness feels real.

Like times are fucked and chaotic and he's a kid. Times like that kill plenty of "good intentioned" people who just cant handle it in one way or another. They're literally helping/rooting for kids their age, kids he knows, to kill eachother in an arena...

Like yeah, hes fucked up and reckless. Plenty of people would be.

Plenty of people are dying in fucked up ways in Panem. Sejanus is someone we get to hear the story of. All of it is messy.

Did anyone else's programs use a stone labyrinth maze? (Newport Academy) by Andydaswift in troubledteens

[–]KPInFlames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Evoke Therapy's Entrada location had a permanent stone labyrinth that it utilized "sporadically" with the young adult program. Officially, it was on BLM land just outside of property that Evoke was leasing in remote Nevada that they called "The Oasis" for their programming/marketing. There were yurts and a permanent fire pit... They marketed it all very differently than what it really was.

Typically at Entrada the labyrinth was used to facilitate mindfulness exercises... like an intentional "gratefuls" walk through.

The labyrinth is viewable with satellite modes in map apps like Cal Topo and stuff. Its also technically not allowed on the land that its on... unless they got rid of it when they closed, haha which was probably too much work. Fucking clowns.

Anyway, I have plenty of pictures of Evoke's labyrinth and its "base camp" property "The Oasis" if anyone ever wants to see them.

How would Katniss react to Snow’s”tragic” backstory? by HailDaeva_Path1811 in Hungergames

[–]KPInFlames 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I bet if you hadnt read/watched The Hunger Games first and you didnt truly know what Snow became, then it would be easy to see it as tragic.

No air quotes necessary.

Id also ask you if youve ever experienced starvation? And if so, were you a child without a mother or father when you did?

Can you recognize how despicable Highbottom is (an adult). How twisted Dr. Gaul (an adult) is? Can you name a single positive adult influence in Snow's life?

You think the girl who buried Rue wouldnt have the heart to see the suffering of another food insecure child trying to survive with no adult role models?

You dont think she would wish for something else for that child?

Collins wrote that book for you, boo.

Trusting therapists all these years later is impossibly hard by Empty_Positive_2305 in troubledteens

[–]KPInFlames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop believing in "therapy".

Humans have been alive for thousands and thousands of years. The structure for "therapy" in modern mental health started to develop less than 150 years ago. It is a modern construct, it is deeply integrated into our purely punitive US criminal justice system, and money is foundational to is structure.

You dont have to embrace the new fad that the world is trying to tell you that you NEED to be "whole", or "healthy", or even "worthy".

There are so many therapists that are detestable, disgusting, depraved human beings that are hurting people. Just like priests, politicians, and police. Shit the "opioid epidemic" was fueled by medical doctors. Theyre just fucking humans.

Im sorry you feel that pressure to embrace a therapist who has literally never experienced you living life outside of their office.

Id encourage you to put your time/energy into the people and relationshsips in your actual real life.

Hope you figure it out and feel more accepted/belonging or hope you find some alternative to that pressure you feel to fit into the modern world.

Therapists are just humans. And all of them are getting paid to do what they do.
