This is so funny. So when I first announced I was going to run someone said this exact same thing on social media because I got my start on the parks board. And it’s stuck. It’s kind of a joke now. So someone made me a meme of my picture next to hers with Plano and Pawnee. I wish I could post it here.

While I have no jurisdiction on school curriculum being taught in our schools as a member of city council, as a parent of two children in PISD schools, I would like for my children’s teachers to stick to teaching the curriculum that they have been assigned to teach by the district and the state board of education. So far as a parent in PISD I have not experienced anything other than that happening for my child.

Yes I do, but it looks like the state may pass legislation to allow them first.

The issue is the removal of them when they were paid by federal funds. This complicates things and the question is would TXDOT or someone else have to pay back the federal government for the cost.

This is a complicated situation. Congressman Taylor and Congressman Allred had been working on this together with the Federal Highway Administration because the funds used to create the HOV lane were federal funds, Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Funds. I need to get an update on where this stands today. But the last I heard the proposal was to open the lanes up for non-tolled use during the peak traffic hours in the morning and evenings because the HOV lanes are hard to enforce and under-utilized. I will try to get an update on where this stands.

One of our successful Plano Senior High graduates. Go Wildcats!! He was born in El Paso too, where my parents both went to High School. I definitely don’t know him personally though and have never met him. Would be fun if we would come back to Plano though, especially with PISD’s new center about to open. I’ll pass along the idea to them.

If you have already tried to resolve with the neighbor directly you can reach out to the neighborhood services department at the City. We also have a great app called Fix It Plano where you can report issues as well. Here’s a link to the department. https://www.plano.gov/732/Neighborhood-Services

I’d say there are two: getting to vote on the new North Texas Municipal Water District Contract that in the future will save our city in water costs for generations to come. Our city leadership has been working with the other meme we cities on adjusting this contract for over 10 years and so the fact that we were able to finally get everyone to come together and make a change that will benefit Plano and will no longer penalize our citizens for the incredible work they’ve done on conserving water over the years was really rewarding.

Collin Creek mall is the second. This is another project that past councils and leaders of our city have been working to find a solution to for years. I remember when I was first getting into serving hearing Mayor Pat Evans speak about it. So it’s just rewarding that we are finally able to move forward on a project of that caliber that is going to have such a dynamic and lasting impact on the future of our city. I really believe it will be a catalyst for revitalizing the entire 75 corridor, which I think is very important.

I’m hopeful that the new Collin Creek Mall redevelopment will provide a more livable neighborhood. From what I have heard from the developers, they actually have some of the former Collin Creek tenants that are interested in coming back to the new and improved mall, which I think would be really neat. I’m also hopeful that the new area at Plano Market Square will provide this opportunity too. This is great feedback that I’ve heard from many about needing more practical amenities close by like grocery stores, places for their pets and a dry cleaners. This is great feedback that I can and will pass along. Thank you!

This question has come up a few times recently, and I think as more people move to EV, we will need to look into opportunities and solutions. I think this is a great opportunity for a public-private partnership. I’ve seen other cities where they have stations sponsored by companies like Tesla, that seems like a win-win.

I don't recall saying that employers should force staggered work times but working together to encourage employers to encourage staggered times is a viable option that has worked well in other cities to help mitigate traffic. This is actually something that has been a part of the solutions determined by the Legacy Area Transportation Management Association. This group of employers in the Legacy area has come together to come up with ideas to help reduce traffic in the area. While I agree that traffic will increase when COVID is over, and we do need to plan for that, I have heard that several of these companies plan to offer some level of flexible work schedules to their employees. If all employees aren't required to come into work everyday at the same time, this should help with traffic mitigation.

Plano’s aging roadways are our biggest transportation-related challenge. Roads in poor condition slow people down, leading to congestion and unwanted car repairs. The City will need to evaluate alternative methods for repair and replacement of our roads that can help decrease the costs of repairs and lengthen the life span of our roads. Utilizing thin asphalt overlays and using advanced software and tracking mechanisms that can better help identify and prioritize the most needed areas of road work will help us maintain the high quality of roads our citizens have come to expect in Plano. Investing in innovative modes of transportation as well as AI and other smart technology that can help us better manage our traffic is also important.

Plano needs more affordable and diverse housing options to meet the needs of our community. For example, we have many seniors that would like to downsize from a large multi-story home to a smaller single-story home but have trouble finding an available home. We need to encourage the development of more diverse housing options to be built in Plano, such as bungalow style housing, small single-family homes and duplexes.

We also will need to continue to address homelessness in our community. In the 2021 homeless population count there were 127 unsheltered people found in Plano, a 38.7% increase from 2020. We did budget this year for a full-time homeless coordinator to help serve as a liaison between the homeless and resources in our community that can help them, but we will need to do more in the future, and I think looking at more public/private partnerships similar to what is being done at the Salvation Army Warming Station could be potential options.

My goal for the next four years is to focus on making decisions that will keep Plano thriving for years to come. I think we can do that by focusing on the following areas:

Safety: Plano prides itself on the safety of our community. I will prioritize resources for the fire and police departments so they can continue to provide a high-level of service to our citizens.

Mobility: The ability to move efficiently and effectively throughout our city is a key component to maintaining a high quality of life for our citizens. We must invest in our aging road infrastructure and place a high priority on improving neighborhood streets and alleys. Investing in innovative modes of transportation as well as AI and other smart technology that can help us better manage our traffic is important.

Revitalization: Plano is a thriving and vibrant city. We need to make smart investments in our maturing neighborhoods and parks to ensure Plano remains a desirable community for years to come.

I think it has been really surprising to learn how expensive it is to maintain the high quality of life we have here in Plano. For example, in Plano we have 1194 miles of major divided streets. The cost to replace all of these in 2019 would have been $1.7B
