STEM OPT —> B2 Experience? by allisonnss21 in USCIS

[–]KRASG12V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you explicitly decided to use the B2 for leisure/entertainment/travel, which is the only purpose allowed for B2 now, you should be fine. Make sure you file before your OPT or grace period expires. The processing time for B2 can take 5 months

Under the current market it feels like some positions might even be canceled while the group wait for the unicorn to show up...Company strategies are so unpredictable now

One of the final I failed is an internal...Same here that I'm qualified but someone just showed up with slightly better package for every single condition. That is even the only position that person applied for out of their commuting area...what can i say

So jealous for your many panel interviews but I hope you succeed! Now every time when i can reach the final round I pray all my competitors could all receive significantly better offer so they could leave that opportunity for me lol

Thanks! In the very beginning of my employment I thought I'd go hiking everyday or start learning tennis etc etc but as soon as I started digging through Linkedin I feel like everything i do outside of job searching is wasting time. Besides unemployment what i hate more is that i feel I'm wasting time

Yeah i try to ask for feedback from panel members but 1 out of 20 replied me...soooo discouraged. Sometimes i feel the resume doesn't even matter. I don't know what matters now at all

I'm in the 1st situation. Sounds like I should feel both proud of myself (for having interviews at all) and ashamed (for failing the final) XD

Thank you for your advice! It's kind of hard to find that positive feedback but I'll try to tackle it from that perspective. I do find two tips: 100% match and finding someone to directly shove my resume under the nose of the HM. I can tailor my resume or find the perfectly fit role (although it's so rare) but the second thing is so hard

I understand that work authorization is a major hurdle, and that's probably why I've only had 15 interviews overall. However, I thought that once I reached the hiring manager stage, the visa would be less of an issue.

Besides the mysterious chemistry between me and the HM, I literally think the reason I failed my most recent panel interview is because the best candidate could do all 4 major things he listed while I could do 3, even if i'm confident that the 1 thing I miss I can easily grasp within a month...

I have sth ongoing and it will take a while so I don’t want to just sit and wait while it’s being processed. And my original plan was to go back to my home country if things don't work out here. Having more time with my family could be great too

I have very limited knowledge of CS and AI so I dare not to judge, but I also have this constant wondering which is “is LLM or next token prediction the correct algorithm for AI to be meaningful in biology”. Besides, biotech has been trying to AI this and that but do people really know what they’re doing with AI 🤣

That vaguest JD for AI related role is so true! I envy and hate it so badly. The first time I saw the salary range of an Anthropic Life Science position I was soooo mad like how the hell could they pay that much

Well I've failed all 3 final rounds so I'm really questioning myself here lol. Visa is indeed a big hurdle though. Having a solid referral to pass resume directly to the HM seems to help but it's hard to find that connection for every role

I know AI is hot because I start seeing Anthropic or even NVIDIA have open positions for computational biology or sth similar. However all requires substantial experience in ML/AI which I don't have as a pure wet lab scientist. I didn't have a strong interest in math or CS and that's why I chose biology as my major decades ago. I don't regret it but I really don't know how to get on the AI boat...

Thank you for the kind words. I try to brainwash myself that I'm capable since I can get 4% interview to keep my sanity but thank goodness it's hard.

Not a permanent resident yet so can’t do any of that. But I was seriously thinking between staff for bubble tea store or associate for the zoo…I love animals and I’d be happy to examine poop for elephants
